The role will be responsible for maintaining accurate and controlled electronics documentation, reviewing PCB designs for manufacturability, supporting current and existing product development, and ensuring timely resolution of technical and documentation-related issues.
The role requires strong knowledge of PCB/PCBA manufacturing, Gerber files, BOM management, engineering documentation, DFM/DFT, electronics components, IPC standards, PPAP/APQP, and technical coordination with vendors and cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, Purchase, and external PCB/PCBA suppliers to ensure product quality, manufacturability, and timely project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
- PCB/PCBA Documentation: Prepare, review, maintain, and update technical documentation for new and existing PCB/PCBA products, including Bill of Materials (BOM), assembly drawings, specifications, Gerber review records, and Engineering Change Notice/Engineering Change Request (ECN/ECR) documentation. Ensure all documents are accurate, properly controlled, approved, and aligned with applicable engineering and manufacturing requirements.
- Gerber File Review & Interpretation: Review and interpret Gerber files for new and legacy PCB designs to verify design data, layer information, dimensions, drill data, fabrication requirements, and other relevant technical details. Identify missing information or potential design issues and coordinate with layout designers and Engineering for necessary corrections.
- New Product Development (NPD) Support: Provide technical and documentation support during the New Product Development process for electronics and automotive lighting products. Support schematic verification, footprint review, design-intent documentation, PCB fabrication documentation, and engineering change activities to ensure timely and error-free product development.
- Existing Product Documentation: Review and update documentation for existing and legacy PCB/PCBA products. Ensure BOMs, drawings, specifications, and related technical documents reflect current manufacturing and quality requirements. Coordinate with Quality and Production for document validation and implementation.
- Design for Manufacturing (DFM) & Design for Testing (DFT): Perform DFM and DFT reviews to ensure PCB/PCBA designs are suitable for manufacturing, assembly, inspection, and testing. Identify potential production and testing issues and provide recommendations to Engineering. Coordinate with QA and Production to ensure appropriate design changes are implemented.
- PPAP / APQP Support: Provide PCB/PCBA-related technical documentation required for PPAP and APQP activities. Support preparation of electrical characteristics,
PCB layer stack-up information, inspection plans, test methods, and other relevant documentation required for customer or internal quality submissions.
- Component Database & Cross-Referencing: Develop and maintain a structured database of electronic components used across PCB/PCBA products. Identify and document approved alternate or second-source components in coordination with Purchase and Engineering. Monitor component availability and obsolescence and proactively communicate potential risks to the concerned teams.
- PCB/PCBA Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with PCB manufacturers and PCBA suppliers regarding Gerber data, BOMs, technical specifications, fabrication requirements, testing plans, and technical clarifications. Resolve vendor queries and maintain proper traceability of technical communications and documentation.
- Technical Support & Continuous Learning: Develop and maintain technical knowledge of electronics manufacturing, PCB assembly, ESD controls, soldering processes, IPC guidelines, automotive electronics, and applicable quality standards. Participate in relevant training and maintain records of technical learning and competency development.
- Documentation Accuracy & Version Control: Ensure proper revision control, document traceability, and availability of the latest approved PCB/PCBA documentation. Minimize documentation errors and ensure changes are properly reviewed, approved, and communicated to relevant stakeholders.
- Internal Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve documentation workflows, version control, technical review processes, data sharing, and supplier coordination. Implement suitable process improvements or Kaizen initiatives in coordination with the reporting manager and cross-functional teams.
Requirements:
- Educational Background: Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience: Relevant experience in PCB/PCBA documentation, electronics product development, Gerber file review, PCB manufacturing, component management, DFM/DFT, and technical coordination.
- Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of PCB/PCBA manufacturing, Gerber files, BOMs, PCB drawings, engineering documentation, ECN/ECR, PCB fabrication, and assembly processes.
- DFM/DFT Knowledge: Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Testing (DFT), PCB assembly processes, ICT, functional testing, and manufacturability considerations.
- Automotive Electronics Knowledge: Knowledge of automotive electronics, electronic components, PCB assembly, ESD requirements, soldering standards, and IPC guidelines is preferred.
- PPAP/APQP Knowledge:
Working knowledge of PPAP and APQP documentation and the ability to provide PCB/PCBA-specific technical information for customer and internal quality submissions.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and analyse PCB design, manufacturing, documentation, component, and supplier-related issues and recommend effective corrective actions.
- Coordination Skills: Ability to coordinate effectively with Engineering, Quality, Production, Purchase, suppliers, and other cross-functional teams.
- Communication Skills: Good communication skills in English, with the ability to understand technical requirements and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PCB/PCBA Experience: Hands-on experience in PCB/PCBA development, manufacturing, documentation, or engineering support.
- Gerber Review: Practical experience in Gerber file interpretation and PCB fabrication data review.
- DFM/DFT: Practical understanding of PCB DFM/DFT analysis and production/test requirements.
