Manna Biotech is looking for a skilled and research-oriented Bioinformatician who can independently handle bioinformatics projects, analyse biological datasets, support research and academic projects, and train students in practical bioinformatics workflows.
The candidate will work closely with the research and academic teams and will be responsible for taking assigned projects from problem definition and data collection through analysis, interpretation, visualization and report preparation.
Key Responsibilities
- Bioinformatics Research & Data Analysis
Perform bioinformatics analysis for academic, research and client projects.
Analyse genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and other biological datasets.
Retrieve and curate biological data from appropriate public databases.
Perform sequence retrieval, alignment, annotation and comparative sequence analysis.
Conduct phylogenetic and evolutionary analyses.
Perform gene/protein functional annotation and enrichment analysis.
Perform pathway and network-based analysis where required.
Interpret computational results from a biological perspective.
Prepare publication-quality tables, figures, heatmaps, plots and other visualizations.
- NGS & Omics Analysis The candidate should be able to work with or develop proficiency in:
Raw sequencing data QC and preprocessing
FASTQ/FASTA handling
Read trimming and filtering
Genome/transcriptome alignment
Variant analysis
RNA-Seq and differential gene-expression analysis
Functional enrichment analysis
GO and KEGG/pathway analysis
Microbiome/16S analysis
Metagenomics workflows
Whole-genome/exome analysis
Oxford Nanopore sequencing data analysis
Integration and interpretation of multi-omics datasets
- Computational Biology & Drug Discovery
Depending upon project requirements, responsibilities may include:
Protein and nucleotide sequence analysis
Protein structure retrieval and analysis
Homology modelling
Molecular docking
Virtual screening
Molecular dynamics-related workflow support
ADMET and drug-likeness analysis
Target identification and validation
Protein–protein interaction analysis
Network pharmacology
Biomarker discovery
- Programming & Data Science
Working knowledge of one or more of the following is preferred:
Python | R | Linux/Unix | Bash | Bioconductor The candidate should be comfortable handling large biological datasets and should progressively contribute to:
Workflow automation
Reproducible analysis pipelines
Statistical analysis
Biological data visualization
Machine learning/AI applications in bioinformatics
Documentation of scripts and computational workflows
- Student Training & Mentoring An important component of this position is training and academic mentoring.
The Bioinformatician will
Train BSc, MSc, BTech, MTech, BPharm, MPharm, PharmD and other life-science students.
Conduct practical bioinformatics training sessions.
Mentor internship students.
Guide dissertation and project students.
Help students understand the biological rationale behind computational analyses.
Design project topics based on the student's academic background and interests.
Develop practical exercises, datasets and training materials.
Monitor student project progress and maintain appropriate records.
Assist students in interpreting results and preparing project reports/presentations.
- Research Project Development The candidate should assist the Manna Biotech research team in:
Literature review
Identification of research gaps
Development of research questions
Designing bioinformatics methodologies
Selection of databases, tools and analytical pipelines
Development of innovative research/project concepts
Integration of wet-lab and computational findings
Preparation of research reports and manuscripts
Preparation of scientific figures and supplementary data
- Client Project Management For assigned client projects, the Bioinformatician will be expected to:
Understand the scientific objective and deliverables.
Assess data and analysis requirements.
Prepare an appropriate computational workflow.
Execute analyses accurately and within agreed timelines.
Maintain organized project files and analysis records.
Perform appropriate quality checks before submission.
Explain results to the research/project coordination team.
Assist in technical discussions with clients when required.
Confidentiality of client data and unpublished research is mandatory.
Technical Skills Preferred
Experience with several of the following would be advantageous:
NCBI, BLAST, UniProt, PDB, Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser, GEO, SRA, Galaxy, Clustal Omega, MEGA, Cytoscape, STRING, DAVID, KEGG, R/Bioconductor, Python, Linux, AutoDock/AutoDock Vina and relevant genomics/NGS analysis tools.
Knowledge of emerging AI/ML applications in genomics, precision medicine, biomarker discovery and computational drug discovery will be considered an advantage.
Documentation Responsibilities The candidate must maintain proper documentation for:

Analyses should be traceable, scientifically defensible and reproducible wherever technically feasible.
Educational Qualification
Preferred: MSc/MTech or equivalent qualification in:
Bioinformatics
Computational Biology
Biotechnology
Genomics
Systems Biology
Life Sciences with strong bioinformatics experience
Candidates with relevant project/research experience will be preferred.
