About the role
Bharat Atomics is building ATLAS-150, a sodium-cooled small modular reactor. We are looking for experienced advisors to work alongside our engineering and leadership teams on a part time, retainer or consulting basis. Advisors bring deep domain experience from operating nuclear facilities, national laboratories, regulatory bodies, or large industrial programmes, and help us avoid the mistakes a first-of-a-kind programme is otherwise likely to make.
Engagement
Part-time / consulting. Typically 4–8 days a month, flexible. Remote with periodic travel to Bengaluru. Duration and commercials discussed case by case.
What you will do
- Review design, safety, and engineering decisions at defined project milestones and flag risks early
- Guide the in-house team on codes, standards, and established practice in your domain
- Sit on design review and technical assessment panels
- Support regulatory strategy and interactions with AERB and other authorities where relevant
- Advise on vendor selection, qualification,
and technical evaluation of suppliers
- Help the team build internal capability — mentoring engineers, reviewing documentation, setting quality expectations
- Open doors within the nuclear and industrial ecosystem where useful
Who we are looking for
- 20+ years in nuclear engineering, nuclear operations, regulatory affairs, or a related heavy-engineering domain
- Direct experience with reactor design, commissioning, licensing, fuel cycle, or nuclear-grade manufacturing
- Background from BARC, IGCAR, NPCIL, AERB, DAE units, national laboratories, or international nuclear programmes
- Track record of having taken something from design to operation, not only research
- Comfortable working with a small, fast-moving team and giving direct, unfiltered feedback
- No active conflict of interest with a competing programme; able to meet confidentiality and regulatory requirements
