Role Objective

To lead the Quality Assurance function for lifting equipment manufacturing, ensuring that all products meet national and international standards (such as ISO, IS, EN, ASTM), comply with statutory and customer requirements, and deliver consistent quality through robust systems, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Management System (QMS)

Establish, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (ISO 9001 or equivalent).

Develop quality plans, SOPs, and work instructions for all stages of manufacturing.

Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and customer-specific requirements.

2. Product Quality & Inspection

Oversee raw material inspection (steel grades, weld consumables, etc.).

Supervise in-process inspections at all stages: cutting, welding, heat treatment, calibration, proof load testing, and finishing.

Ensure finished chains meet load capacity, dimensional accuracy, and safety standards.

Approve test certificates, calibration records, and final dispatch clearances.

3. Testing & Certification





Lead destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) for weld quality, fatigue, and load tests.

Manage internal and external audits from certifying authorities (BIS, ISO, third-party inspectors, customers).

Ensure traceability of batches and maintain testing documentation.

4. Continuous Improvement

Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for quality issues.

Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and Kaizen initiatives to minimize defects and scrap.

Introduce advanced quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, and MSA.

5. Supplier & Customer Quality

Develop vendor quality standards and conduct supplier audits.

Handle customer complaints, warranty claims, and provide technical support.

Ensure customer-specific requirements are incorporated into production.

6. Team Leadership & Training

Lead a team of quality engineers, inspectors, and lab technicians.

Train production teams on quality standards, safety norms, and inspection methods.

Foster a culture of quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Competencies

Solid knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and heat treatment of steels.

Hands-on expertise in NDT methods (UT, MPI, Radiography, Dye Penetrant).

Familiarity with lifting chain standards (IS 6216, IS 2760, EN 818, ASTM A973, etc.).

Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.

Leadership ability to manage audits, customers, and cross-functional teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Production Engineering (mandatory).

Experience: 1220 years in Quality Assurance, preferably in heavy engineering / forged & welded chain / lifting equipment industry.

Certifications: Lead Auditor ISO 9001, NDT Level II/III certification preferred.
