Job Purpose

We are seeking a Teardown Engineer to disassemble Li-ion cells and analyze their materials, design, performance, and failure modes. The role involves scheduling teardowns, collecting and analyzing data, assembling coin cells, and performing electrochemical tests. Reporting to the Group Lead, the engineer will deliver technical insights through teardown and reverse engineering to support engineering and development activities.

Role & responsibilities

- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery materials, cell components, manufacturing processes, and performance metrics.
- Safely disassemble lithium-ion coin, cylindrical, and prismatic cells
- Analyse cell materials, design, construction, and manufacturing processes
- Identify failure modes, defects, and degradation mechanisms
- Plan and schedule teardown activities as per project needs
- Collect, organize, and analyze teardown and test data
- Perform comparative and benchmarking analysis of internal and competitor cells
- Assemble coin cells for testing and validation




- Develop test procedures and write test programs in battery testing software and Conduct electrochemical testing (cycling, rate capability, impedance, etc.)
- Document teardown findings with photos, data, and technical reports
- Follow lithium-ion battery safety procedures, and environmental standards
- Maintain teardown tools, lab equipment, and safety records
- Processing, recording and tracking test data using software tools

Preferred candidate profile

- 2+ years of experience working with lithium-ion technology and conducting benchmarking studies of battery cells.
- The candidate must have a interest in process parameters, design parameters, materials characterization and analysis techniques, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Solid interest in benchmarking studies and conducting root-cause investigations of battery failures and degradation mechanisms.
