Chief Security Officer (CSO) - Job DescriptionRole Overview
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for developing and overseeing the organization’s overall security strategy, including physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, and compliance. The CSO ensures the protection of people, assets, data, and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy aligned with business goals
- Lead cybersecurity initiatives, including threat detection, incident response, and data protection
- Oversee physical security operations (facilities, personnel, access control)
- Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across the organization
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and industry standards
- Manage security budgets, tools, and vendor relationships
- Lead crisis management and business continuity planning
- Collaborate with executive leadership and IT teams
- Build and lead a high-performing security team
- Monitor emerging threats and update policies accordingly
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- 10-15+ years of experience in security leadership roles
- Solid knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001)
- Experience with risk management and compliance
- Proven leadership and decision-making skills

Reporting Structure
