Job Overview
We design and develop advanced robotic systems for defence applications, including Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) with manual and autonomous navigation, Remote Controlled Weapon Systems (RCWS) with manual and autonomous operation, robotic arm payloads, EO-IR computer vision systems, and IoT-based safety applications such as fire detection & suppression systems. We are looking for a skilled Embedded Systems Firmware Engineer to join our engineering team and contribute to mission-critical, field-deployed platforms.
As an Embedded Systems Firmware Engineer, you will design, develop,
and validate firmware for embedded platforms powering our robotic and defence systems. You will work closely with hardware, controls, computer vision, and systems engineering teams to deliver robust, real-time, and safety-critical firmware across multiple product lines — from ground vehicle motion control to weapon system actuation and sensor payload integration.
Industry focus is Defence – Robotics, Computer Vision Systems, IoT, Simulators, Fire Control Systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Design, develop, and debug embedded firmware (C/C++) for microcontrollers and embedded processors used in UGVs, RCWS, robotic arm payloads, EO-IR systems, and IoT devices.
2. Develop real-time control software for motor drives, actuators, servo/gimbal control, and motion control systems.
3. Implement and maintain communication protocols/interfaces: CAN, RS-232/485, SPI, I2C, UART, Ethernet, MAVLink/custom protocols for command & telemetry.
4. Integrate firmware with sensors (IMU, GPS/GNSS, encoders, LiDAR, cameras) and actuators for both manual (teleoperated) and autonomous operation modes.
5. Develop low-level drivers and BSPs (Board Support Packages) for custom hardware boards.
6. Work on safety-critical interlocks and fail-safe logic for weapon system fire-control and actuation subsystems, per defined safety and operational requirements.
7. Collaborate with the autonomy/navigation team to integrate firmware with higher-level autonomous navigation and control stacks.
8. Support EO-IR payload firmware: camera control, stabilization, video/image data handling, and integration with computer vision pipelines.
9. Develop firmware for IoT-based systems such as fire detection & suppression units, including sensor data acquisition, wireless communication, and alert/actuation logic.
10. Conduct unit testing, integration testing, HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) testing, and field trials of firmware on live platforms.
11. Debug and resolve issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD debuggers, and other lab equipment.
12. Prepare technical documentation: design documents, test reports, interface control documents (ICDs), and firmware release notes.
13.
Ensure firmware compliance with applicable defence quality, reliability, and safety standards.
14. Participate to travel for field trials, integration, and testing at customer/trial sites
15. Support production, integration, and troubleshooting during system assembly and field deployment.
Desired Candidate Profile
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's/Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related field.
2. 1-4 years of hands-on experience in embedded firmware development in defence robotics domain.
3. Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded/bare-metal and RTOS-based systems.
4. Experience with 32-bit microcontrollers/processors (ARM Cortex-M/A, STM32, TI, NXP, or similar).
5. Working knowledge of RTOS (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, VxWorks, or equivalent).
6. Strong understanding of embedded communication protocols: CAN/CANopen, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet/TCP-IP.
7. Experience with motor control (BLDC/PMSM), servo systems, and closed-loop control (PID).
8. Experience with wireless communication modules (RF, Wi-Fi, LTE, radio telemetry links).
9. Hands-on experience with debugging tools: JTAG/SWD, oscilloscope, logic analyzer.
10. Familiarity with version control (Git) and embedded development toolchains (GCC, IAR, Keil).
11. Understanding of schematics and ability to work closely with hardware/PCB design teams.
12. Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred / Good to Have:
1. Exposure to autonomous systems, sensor fusion, or navigation stacks (ROS/ROS2).
2. Knowledge of EO-IR camera/gimbal systems and video processing pipelines.
3. Familiarity with functional safety concepts (e.g., IEC 61508, MIL-STD standards) and safety-critical firmware design.
4. Experience with bootloaders, firmware OTA updates, and secure firmware practices.
5. Exposure to weapon system electronics, fire-control logic, or similar safety-critical actuation systems.
6. Experience with IoT protocols (MQTT, LoRa, Zigbee) for sensor/alert systems.
7. Prior experience taking products through prototype-to-production and field trials.
What We Offer:
1. Opportunity to work on cutting-edge defence robotics technology with real-world field impact.
2. Cross-functional exposure across mechanical, electrical, software, and AI/CV domains.
3. Competitive pay in accordance with industry & company Standards.
