Role Purpose The Supply Chain Manager will lead end-to-end material planning, sourcing, supplier development, inventory, stores, production planning, packaging and dispatch for drone platforms and components.
The role is accountable for uninterrupted material availability, optimal inventory, competitive cost, quality compliance and scalable supply-chain processes aligned with production schedules.
Key responsibilities
- Material and component planning: Translate production plans, forecasts, BOMs and engineering requirements into time-phased material plans for airframes, motors, batteries, electronics, flight controllers, payloads, mechanical parts and consumables.
- Sourcing and negotiation: Identify domestic and international sources; manage RFQ/RFP processes, technocommercial comparisons, price and contract negotiations, purchase orders, lead times, payment terms and delivery commitments.
- Supplier development: Build a capable and reliable supplier base through qualification, audits, capacity assessment, process improvement, alternate-source development and regular performance reviews covering quality, cost and delivery.
- Stores and inventory: Establish controls for inward receipt, inspection coordination, identification, traceability, safe storage, preservation, kitting, issue, cycle counting and reconciliation.
- Inventory management: Maintain visibility and control across raw materials, stores, work-in-progress and finished goods; define min-max levels,
safety stock and reorder parameters while reducing shortages, excess and obsolete inventory.
- Production planning and control: Coordinate with engineering, quality and manufacturing teams to prepare production schedules, monitor shortages and WIP, prioritise critical requirements and support on-time build completion.
- Packaging and shipping: Develop packaging standards for sensitive drone assemblies and batteries; oversee labelling, documentation, dispatch planning, transporter coordination and safe, on-time delivery.
- Cost optimisation: Drive value engineering, localisation, should-cost analysis, vendor consolidation, alternate materials/sources, freight optimisation and inventory reduction without compromising safety, quality or performance.
- Sustainability: Promote responsible sourcing, reusable or reduced packaging, waste reduction, energy-efficient logistics and compliance with applicable environmental and ethical supply-chain requirements.
- Governance and systems: Maintain accurate ERP/MRP master data and procurement records; establish SOPs, dashboards, MIS and risk registers; ensure adherence to approval matrices, contractual requirements and audit controls.
- Cross-functional execution: Work closely with design, R&D;, quality, finance, production and programme teams to manage engineering changes,
new-product introduction, supplier risks and production ramp-up.
Candidate profile
- 5-7 years of relevant experience in supply chain, procurement, materials management, production planning, inventory or plant logistics.
- Hands-on experience in the drone/UAV industry is mandatory; exposure to aerospace, defence electronics, electric mobility or precision engineering will be advantageous.
- Robust understanding of BOM-based planning, MRP, procurement cycles, supplier quality, lead-time management, inventory controls and production coordination.
- Demonstrated success in supplier negotiations, cost reduction, localisation, alternate-source development and resolving material shortages.
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and strong proficiency in Excel-based planning, analysis and reporting.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations or a related discipline is preferred; an MBA or professional supply-chain qualification will be an advantage.
