Job Context & Major Challenges

Job Context: Amelia Coal Mine is located in the Main basin of Singrauli Coalfield, Singrauli District of Madhya Pradesh (~37 km from Singrauli City). The block has been allotted to THDC India Limited, a Mini Ratna Public Sector Undertaking (Joint Venture of NTPC Limited and Government of Uttar Pradesh). THDC has appointed Amelia Coal Mining Limited as their MDO. In FY2023, ACML has begun Overburden Removal and Coal Production. State of Art Technology utilized in Amelia Coal Mine is combination of shovels and dumpers and Surface Miners.

Amelia Coal

Mine is currently in the rampup phase with Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 5. 6 Million Tonnes Per Annum. Scope of the MDO includes Access to Site, Fice, deploy HEMM, Operate and Maintain Mine, excavate and deliver coal; Construction and Maintain of Coal Handling Plant (CHP), infrastructure including Conveyor (Mine to Railway Siding), Railway Siding, Approach and Access Roads; Arrange Power Supply, Undertake Land Acquisition, R&R;, obtain possession of land, procure and renew EC, FC, licenses, permits, etc.

Major Challenges

Some of the major challenges includes achieve and maintain peak coal production and overburden removal, ensure safe operation, maintain coal quality, shifting of Project PDFs, facilitate land acquisition, physical possession of land, implementation of R&R; policy, construction, operation and maintece of Coal Handling Plant (CHP), Coal Conveyor and Railway Siding, compliance with statutory norms, renewal/ amendment of statutory clearances, undertake progressive mine closure, facilitate smooth operation and comply with the requirements as per terms of contract with THDC, Contractors, SubContractors, etc.

Key Result Areas (KRA) / Accountabilities





KRA1: Estimates / Drawings

- Preparation & finalization
- Review of Drawings
- Discussion with HOD
- Preparation and finalization of Estimates

KRA2: Quality Control

- Ensure required degree of quality and strength with minimal cost
- Strict supervision of construction activity on daytoday basis.
- Coordination with contractors and suppliers to check the quality materials before use.
- To ensure the quality of fine aggregates through sieve analysis

KRA3: Material & Time Management

- Ensure timely availability of materials to achieve the completion target before target date
- Access and list out the quantity and required date of each and every materials.
- Coordinate with contractors/ purchase to supply the materials within scheduled time.
- Prepare bar chart for monitoring the day to day progress.
- Review and analyze work progress
- Coordination with different departments

KRA4: Cost Control

- Montior and control all the cost of civil projects and maintece activities to avoid cost over runs
- Monitor actual expenditure with budget
- Take corrective action for cost over runs
- Control of manpower and over time
- Use of items from surplus inventory
- Control on wastages
- Develop cost effective designs

KRA5: Safety

- Ensure healthy and secure working atmosphere and motivate workmen. To monitor the use of effective safety appliances during construction.
- To coordinate with contractors for strictly follow the safety rules and regulations.
- To arrange awareness in workmen regarding safety.

KRA6: Development of Subordinates

- Build and sustain a conducive work culture to improve productivity
- To motivate and develop teamwork concept to achieve the goal.
- Fixing up of performance objectives
- Identification of training needs and recommend training
- Multiskilling
- Effective communication and role clarity to subordinates
