Senior Design Engineer — Topgrip
Location: Hyderabad, India (On-site)
Experience: 7+ years
Department: Product Design & Development
Employment Type: Full time
About Topgrip
Topgrip designs and manufactures its own line of products, taking them from concept through to the factory floor — including Brake System Valves for Railways, Automotive Engine Assembly Line Fixtures, and Complex Aerospace Parts. As we grow our product portfolio across these demanding, precision-critical industries, we're looking for a strong design hand to own the engineering side of that journey.
About the Role
This is a critical, design-focused role for someone who can take full ownership of a product's engineering — from first concept sketch to a release-ready design package. You'll work independently on CAD, BOMs, and component selection, bringing the kind of hands-on manufacturing sense that means your designs come out right the first time. It's a strong fit for someone who wants real ownership of the design function rather than being one of many hands on a large team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own product development end-to-end from concept through design release
- Prepare and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) for new and existing products
- Select and specify bought-out (BOP) components — evaluating vendor options for fit, function, and cost
- Apply strong GD&T; principles and tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure designs are functionally sound and manufacturable
- Create and review 2D drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks, NX, and Inventor
- Drive design decisions using practical manufacturing knowledge, even without day-to-day floor involvement
- Support prototyping, testing, and design validation activities
- Maintain design documentation, revision history, and engineering change records with rigor
What Success Looks Like
- Designs that need minimal rework once released, because manufacturability was built in from the start
- BOMs and component selections that are accurate, cost-conscious, and ready for procurement without back-and-forth
- Drawings and tolerancing clear enough that manufacturing rarely needs to ask "what did the designer mean?"
Requirements
- Minimum 7+ years of experience in product design/development, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Strong, hands-on knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, sheet metal, fabrication, assembly, or similar)
- Solid understanding and practical, everyday application of GD&T;
- Mandatory, demonstrable exposure to tolerance stack-up analysis
- Proficiency across SolidWorks, NX, and Inventor
- Proven track record in BOM preparation and bought-out part selection
- Strong ownership mindset — comfortable being the primary design authority on a project
- Good communication skills and sharp attention to detail
Preferred (Valuable to Have)
- Experience designing for regulated/precision-critical sectors such as railways, automotive, or aerospace
- Experience working directly with vendors/suppliers for component sourcing and negotiation
- Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems
- Working knowledge of electronics and electrical assembly
