Role & responsibilities
Planning & engineering
- Master project schedule (L1L3) with a baseline, critical path and a weekly-
Technical specification review, drawing and P&ID; approvals, layout and hygienic-design sign-off.
- Mass/energy balance, utility load calculation and capacity validation before orders are placed.
Procurement & negotiation
- Vendor development, technical bid evaluation and commercial negotiation for equipment, civil, MEP and services.
- Contract structuring scope boundaries, payment milestones, liquidated damages, performance guarantees, warranty and spares.
- Delivering measurable savings against the sanctioned estimate without trading away specification.
Execution & commissioning
- Site mobilisation, contractor supervision, daily progress control and slippage recovery.
- Pre-commissioning checks, loop testing, CIP validation, water and product trials, PGT and capacity demonstration.
- Process stabilisation to design yield, utility norms and quality specification.
Cost & commercialcontrol
- Capex budget ownership, committed-cost tracking, change-order discipline and forecast-at-completion.
- Cash flow phasing, advance and retention management, and timely certification of contractor bills.
- Incentive and subsidy capture aligned to project milestones.
Statutory, safety & compliance
- All project-related licences, consents and approvals obtained ahead of the milestone that needs them.
- Site EHS work permits, height and hot work controls, contractor safety induction, incident reporting.
- Food-safety and export-audit readiness designed in, not retrofitted.
Cross-functional leadership
- Chairing the weekly project review; driving R&D;, QA, Production,
Procurement and Finance to close their open items.
- Escalating early and with options, not with problems a monthly one-page MIS to the CEO with status, risk register and decisions required.
- Building and coaching the site project team; setting the standard for site discipline.
Handover
- As-built drawings, O&M; manuals, SOPs, calibration and spares register.
- Operator and technician training with competency sign-off.
- Formal handover certificate from Operations with punch list closed.
Preferred candidate profile
- 10+ years in dairy or food processing projects; at least 3 years directly owning installation and commissioning.
- At least one greenfield plant or major expansion taken from engineering through to commercial production.
- Working dairy process knowledge pasteurisation, separation, standardisation, homogenisation, membrane systems, evaporation/drying, cheese making, CIP design and validation. He must be able to challenge an OEM on process logic, not just on delivery dates.
- Demonstrated leadership over teams that do not report to him contractors, OEM engineers, internal functions.
- Hard commercial negotiation experience with equipment suppliers and civil/MEP contractors, including contract terms, not just price.
- Analytical, structured problem solving able to isolate root cause on a yield shortfall, a utility overshoot or a schedule slip using data, and take a decision at site.
- Fluent with project scheduling and cost control tools (MS Project or Primavera, Excel-based cost models); comfortable reading P&IDs;, GA drawings, single-line diagrams and layout drawings.
- Willing to be site-based and to relocate to Gujarat as that project ramps.
