Role & responsibilities
Job Title: General Manager Finance & Accounts
Location: Mambakkam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Entity / Institution: Velammal Educational Trust / Velammal Vidhyashram / Institutions (Mambakkam Campus)
Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) / Trustee / Management Board
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Overview The General Manager Finance will oversee overall financial planning, budgeting, statutory compliance, accounting operations, auditing, and financial strategy for the Velammal campus/units in Mambakkam. The ideal candidate will be a strategic financial leader responsible for maintaining financial integrity, optimizing operational costs, managing cash flows, and ensuring complete compliance with tax laws and educational trust regulations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Planning
* Oversee institutional financial strategy, long-term forecasting, and annual operating budgets.
- Drive financial planning and analysis (FP&A;) for campus operations, infrastructure development, and expansion projects.
- Monitor budget utilization, variance analysis, and operational expenditure across departments.
1. Accounting Operations & Treasury Management
* Supervise day-to-day accounting, fee collections, vendor payments, payroll execution, and general ledger reconciliation.
- Manage working capital, cash flows, and treasury functions to ensure liquidity and optimized yield on funds.
- Maintain institutional bank accounts, banking relationships, credit facilities, and loans.
1. Statutory Compliance & Taxation
* Ensure strict compliance with all local, state, and central statutory requirements, including Income Tax (Section 12A/80G for Trusts, where applicable), GST, TDS, PF, ESI, and Professional Tax.
- Oversee periodic tax filings, assessments, appeals, and statutory audits.
- Ensure compliance with regulations governing educational trusts, CBSE/State Board norms, and audit standards.

Audit & Internal Controls
* Direct and coordinate internal, external, statutory, and management audits.
- Standardize financial controls, risk management frameworks, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) across all administrative and operational units.
- Implement robust audit checks on procurement, billing, inventory, and fee receipts.
1. Fee Management & Revenue Assurance
* Oversee fee collection structures, transport/hostel fee reconciliation, defaulter tracking, and online payment gateway management.
- Ensure seamless tracking and reconciliation of scholarship distributions, concessions, and fee refunds.
1. Leadership & System Integration
* Lead, mentor, and build a high-performing finance and accounting team at the Mambakkam campus.
- Leverage ERP systems (e.g., Tally, SAP, or specialized institutional ERPs) to streamline financial reporting and automation.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly/quarterly financial dashboards and presentation decks for executive trustees and management.
Preferred candidate profile
- Education: Qualified Chartered Accountant /( Inter CA is mandatory)
- Experience: 12 to 18+ years of core financial and accounting experience, with at least 5+ years in a senior leadership role (AGM / DGM / GM).
- Industry Background: Prior experience in large Educational Institutions, University Campuses, Healthcare Trusts, or Large-Scale Service Organizations is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Deep expertise in statutory tax laws (IT, GST, TDS), Trust accounting, ERP software (Tally / SAP / Campus ERPs), and advanced MS Excel.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical acumen, team management capability, integrity, negotiation skills, and clear communication skills in English and Tamil.
