CoERS, IIT Madras is looking for an Associate Consultant Road Safety Data & Technology Systems to support road safety data management, analytics, technology systems monitoring, dashboards, field investigations and coordination with government departments and institutional stakeholders.

The selected candidate will work on road safety and technology-enabled initiatives involving crash data, intelligent traffic management systems, enforcement technologies, GIS, dashboards and evidence-based road safety interventions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Crash Data Management & Analytics

- Manage and monitor the quality of iRAD and eDAR data across districts.
- Track data completeness, accuracy and timeliness and prepare monthly district-wise data quality scorecards.
- Coordinate with district police and other stakeholder departments to resolve data gaps and errors.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly crash analytics covering crash cause, location, vehicle type, road-user category, time of day and severity.
- Prepare detailed case files for fatal and major crashes to support root-cause analysis.

2. Technology Systems Monitoring

- Monitor the functioning of ITMS, ANPR and RLVD systems, including uptime, detection accuracy and challan generation.
- Coordinate with technology vendors for resolution of system issues.
- Track vendor SLA performance and maintain fault/downtime records.
- Support Command and Control Centre operations.
- Provide first-level technical support for e-challan, iRAD, eDAR and ITMS application-related issues.
- Support reconciliation of e-challan information with VAHAN and SARATHI, in accordance with approved data-sharing protocols.

3. Dashboards, MIS & Reporting





- Develop and maintain state-level Road Safety Dashboards and MIS using appropriate data visualization tools.
- Prepare analytical reports, field visit reports and data summaries.
- Support preparation of inter-departmental action plans.
- Prepare agenda inputs and minutes for Lead Agency and District Road Safety Committee meetings.
- Maintain the black spot database and rectification compliance tracker.

4. Field & Road Safety Activities

- Conduct field visits and traffic/road inventory surveys at identified black spots.
- Collect photographic, geometric and traffic-volume data.
- Support engineering assessment and road safety improvement activities.
- Support district-level road safety awareness campaigns.
- Assist with IEC materials and road safety communication activities.

5. Coordination with IIT Madras / RBG Labs

- Coordinate at the working level with RBG Labs, IIT Madras for data, platform and analytics requirements.
- Ensure datasets shared with IIT Madras follow prescribed formats and approved data-sharing protocols.

Eligibility / Educational Qualification

Minimum Qualification:

- Bachelor's / Master's / PhD in a relevant discipline.

Preferred academic backgrounds:

- Civil Engineering
- Transportation Engineering
- Traffic Engineering
- Road Safety
- Urban/Transport Planning
- Data Science / Computer Science




- Information Technology
- Geography/GIS
- Other relevant disciplines

Experience

- 3-8 years of relevant professional experience in road safety, traffic engineering, transport infrastructure, ITS, data analytics or related fields.
- Experience working on government, institutional or consulting assignments will be preferred.
- Candidates with experience in road safety data systems, intelligent traffic systems or government technology projects will have an advantage.

Technical Skills Candidates should have working knowledge of:

- MS Excel
- SQL
- Python or R
- Power BI / Tableau / equivalent dashboard tools
- QGIS or equivalent GIS software
- Data analysis and visualization
- Crash data analytics
- Spatial analysis and mapping

Preferred Domain Knowledge Knowledge or experience with the following will be an advantage:

- Road crash investigation/data analysis
- Black spot identification and analysis
- Traffic and road inventory surveys

- Ability to coordinate with government departments and district-level offices
- Good command of English and Hindi
- Willingness to undertake field visits
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team

Compensation 4,00,000 8,00,000 per annum (Consolidated)

Compensation will be based on qualifications, relevant experience and suitability for the role.
