Job Purpose: To lead the overall Steel Melting Shop operations comprising Induction Furnaces, CCM/Billet Caster and auxiliary systems, in a DRI Sector of Steel Plant, ensuring achievement of production, quality, yield, cost and safety targets.

Key Responsibilities:

- Overall responsibility for SMS production and operations in line with DRI/Kiln output and billet requirements.
- Manage Induction Furnace, CCM/Billet Caster operations for optimum productivity and uninterrupted production.
- Coordinate with DRI/Kiln for consistent sponge iron supply and monitor metallization, carbon, temperature and quality parameters.
- Optimize DRI scrap mix, melting practice, yield, power consumption (kWh/MT), refractory, electrode and alloy consumption.
- Ensure required steel chemistry, tapping temperature and billet quality, minimizing casting defects.
- Monitor tap-to-tap time, casting speed, downtime, equipment availability and production efficiency.




- Coordinate preventive/breakdown maintenance and shutdown planning with Maintenance and DRI teams.
- Lead cost reduction, process improvement and energy-efficiency initiatives.
- Ensure strict compliance with SOPs, safety, pollution-control and statutory requirements.
- Manage departmental/contract manpower and coordinate with DRI, Quality, Maintenance, Power, Stores and Rolling Mill.
- Prepare and review MIS/KPIs covering production, yield, quality, consumption, downtime, cost and safety.

Qualification B.E./ B. Tech in Metallurgy / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, preferably Metallurgy.

Experience: 12 - 18 years' relevant experience in DRI-based steel plants, including substantial hands-on experience in Induction Furnace, SMS and CCM/Billet Caster operations. Robust team leadership, troubleshooting and process-optimization skills required.
