Play an integral role in the global management of cardiothoracic surgery patientsincluding all aspects of pre-operative care from performing patient histories and daily rounds to invasive surgical proceduresincluding the critical retrieval of vascular tissue in coronary bypass procedures

Job Responsibilities:
Handles daily patient roundspatient education and discharge summaries. Performs patient histories and physical exams
Performs invasive proceduressuch as thoracenteseschest tube insertionsplacement of central venousdialysis and Swan-Ganz cathetersarterial lines and intra-aortic balloon pumps
Exhibits autonomy in the operating room when required
Retrieves vascular tissueincluding greater and lesser saphenous veins and/or radial arteriesfor use as a bypass conduit.
Often uses endoscopic retrieval methods and involved in the industrial aspect of EVH.
Performs first assistant duties on all adult and pediatric cardiac casesthoracic and major/minor vascular cases
Meets the specific needs of the attending surgeonoften assisting several surgeons in a single practice
Has exacting knowledge of each surgeons idiosyncrasies to expedite the procedure and limit patient morbidity and mortality




Uses knowledge of medical model to promote synergistic relationship between physician and PA
Has extensive knowledge of the pharmacologic effects of vasoactive/ cardiotonic drugsventilator management and artificial cardiac devices
Performs duties of a primary care PA
Manages other disease entities frequently encountered in the cardiac populationnamely hypertension diabetesCOP Dasthmahypothyroidism and others.

Candidate Requirements:
Able to work accurately and with minimal supervision.
Ability to comprehend written instructions given by the related departmental personnel.
Ability to plan & organize ones work schedule effectively.
Speaking and listening are essential requirements to understand and carry out the instructions given by the supervisors and other related departmental personnel.
