Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage the complete Tooling / Toolroom function for VMC, HMC, CNC Turning and related machining operations.

- Plan, develop and optimize cutting tools, tool holders, fixtures, jigs and special tooling based on component and process requirements.

- Select suitable cutting tools, inserts, grades, geometries and cutting parameters for different machining applications.

- Support VMC, HMC and CNC Turning processes to improve productivity, tool life and machining quality.

- Develop and standardize tooling strategies, tool lists, tool presetting and tool management systems.

- Analyze tool performance, tool life and machining issues and implement corrective actions.

- Work closely with Production, Process Engineering, Quality, Maintenance and Purchase teams for tooling-related requirements.

- Review current component drawings and manufacturing processes and provide suitable tooling solutions.

- Identify opportunities for cycle-time reduction, tool-cost reduction and productivity improvement.

- Establish and maintain tool life standards and monitor actual tool consumption.

- Manage tooling inventory, minimum stock levels, reconditioning and timely availability of critical tools.

- Coordinate with tooling suppliers for technical discussions, trials, tool development and cost negotiation.

- Conduct tool trials and evaluate new cutting tools for performance and cost effectiveness.

- Troubleshoot machining problems such as tool wear, vibration, chatter, poor surface finish, dimensional variation and tool breakage.

- Ensure proper documentation of tool specifications, tool life, trial results, tool consumption and tooling standards.





- Guide and develop Toolroom Engineers and technicians and ensure effective allocation of work.

- Drive continuous improvement initiatives through Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S and cost reduction projects.

- Ensure tooling activities comply with quality, safety and company standards.

Technical Skills Required

- Solid knowledge of VMC, HMC and CNC Turning machining processes.

- Good knowledge of cutting tools, carbide inserts, tool holders and workholding systems.

- Knowledge of tool selection, cutting parameters and tool life optimization.

- Understanding of GD&T;, engineering drawings and machining tolerances.

- Knowledge of jigs, fixtures and special-purpose tooling.

- Ability to analyze machining problems and provide effective tooling solutions.

- Knowledge of tool presetting and tool management systems.

- Experience in new tool development, tool trials and supplier coordination.

- Knowledge of CNC machining productivity and cycle-time improvement.

- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen and 5S.
