Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Solar Power Plant Design Engineer with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in the design and execution of utility-scale and commercial solar PV projects ranging from 1 MW to 50 MW.
The candidate will be responsible for engineering, design, procurement support, installation, testing, commissioning, project coordination, and statutory approvals for solar power projects.
Key Responsibilities1. Solar Plant Design & Engineering
- Prepare and review complete Solar PV plant electrical designs from concept to detailed engineering.
- Prepare/review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), electrical layouts, cable schedules, earthing and lightning protection layouts.
- Design DC and AC systems including:
- PV module/string configuration
- DC combiner boxes
- Inverters
- AC/DC cables
- LT/HT panels
- Transformers
- HT switchgear
- RMU/VCB
- SCADA and monitoring systems
- Perform DC/AC capacity calculations and equipment sizing.
- Prepare cable sizing, voltage-drop, short-circuit and load calculations.
- Develop plant layout, module layout, inverter/transformer placement and evacuation system design.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical and instrumentation teams.
1. Solar Design Software
Candidate should have working knowledge of relevant engineering software such as:
- PVsyst – energy yield analysis and plant simulation
- AutoCAD – electrical and plant layouts
- PVsyst / Helioscope / similar solar design tools
- MS Excel – engineering calculations, BOQ and analysis
- MS Project / Primavera P6 – basic project planning preferred
- Google Earth / GIS tools – site assessment preferred
1. Procurement & Technical Evaluation
- Prepare technical specifications, BOQ/BOM and material requisitions.
- Support procurement of modules, inverters, transformers, HT/LT panels, cables, structures, SCADA and other BOS items.
- Review vendor technical offers and prepare technical comparison statements.
- Review vendor drawings, datasheets, GA drawings and technical documents.
- Coordinate with suppliers for technical clarifications and material delivery.
1. Project Execution
- Coordinate and monitor installation activities at project sites.
- Provide engineering support during:
- Module installation
- MMS/structure installation
- DC cable laying and termination
- Inverter installation
- AC/HT cable installation
- Transformer and HT equipment installation
- Earthing and lightning protection
- SCADA and communication systems
- Resolve engineering and site execution issues.
1. Testing & Commissioning
- Prepare/review testing and commissioning procedures.
- Coordinate testing of:
- PV strings
- DC cables
- AC/LT cables
- Transformers
- HT cables
- HT switchgear
- Protection relays
- Earthing systems
- Coordinate pre-commissioning, synchronization and plant commissioning.
- Support performance testing and final project handover.
1. Statutory Approvals & Compliance
- Coordinate with statutory authorities and DISCOM/utility agencies for project approvals.
- Support documentation for:
- Electrical Inspector / CEIG approval
- Grid connectivity approval
- Net metering / open access approvals, as applicable
- HT connection and synchronization
- Electrical safety compliance
- Other project-specific statutory approvals
- Ensure designs comply with applicable CEA regulations, IS/IEC standards, DISCOM requirements and project specifications.
1. Documentation
- Prepare and maintain:
- Design calculations
- SLDs and layouts
- BOQ/BOM
- Technical specifications
- Datasheets
- Method statements
- Inspection & Test Plans (ITP)
- Testing and commissioning reports
- As-built drawings
- Operation & Maintenance documentation
- Project handover dossiers
Required Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in Solar PV Design / Solar EPC / Renewable Energy projects.
- Experience in 1 MW to 50 MW solar power plant projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical design and solar PV plant engineering.
- Good understanding of DC, AC, LT and HT systems.
- Knowledge of applicable IS/IEC standards, CEA regulations and electrical safety requirements.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience in PVsyst and AutoCAD.
- Experience in utility-scale solar EPC projects.
- Knowledge of SCADA, weather monitoring systems and plant monitoring.
- Experience with grid-connected solar power plants and HT evacuation systems.
- Exposure to CEIG/electrical inspector approvals and DISCOM coordination.
- Ability to independently review drawings and resolve site engineering issues.
