Server Engineer (L3)

Role Summary The L3 Server Engineer is responsible for advanced administration, troubleshooting, design, and optimization of server infrastructure across on-premise environments. This role handles high-severity incidents, leads root cause analysis, implements complex changes, and provides technical guidance to L1/L2 teams. The engineer must ensure availability, performance, and security of enterprise systems.

Key Responsibilities

1. Server Administration & Architecture

- Manage and optimize Windows/Linux servers across physical and virtual environments.
- Design and implement server infrastructure solutions (compute, storage, virtualization).
- Perform advanced troubleshooting of OS, hardware, and application-level issues.
- Lead server migrations, upgrades, and capacity planning.

2. Virtualization & Cloud

- Administer Hyper-V clusters at enterprise scale.
- Implement HA/DRS, snapshots and templates.

3. Security & Compliance

- Implement OS hardening, patching strategy, and vulnerability remediation.
- Manage AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, PKI, DFS, and identity lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with security audits and IT policies (ISO/PCI if applicable).

4. Incident,



Change & Problem Management

- Handle P1/P2 incidents, perform RCA, and prepare detailed incident reports.
- Validate and approve high-risk change requests.
- Mentor L1/L2 teams and create SOPs, best practices, and knowledge base articles.

5. Monitoring & Automation

- Setup and optimize monitoring using Zabbix, Grey log, etc.
- Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python for repetitive tasks.
- Conduct performance tuning for servers, storage, and virtualization systems.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

- Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Linux (RHEL/CentOS/Ubuntu).
- Cloud platforms: AWS or Azure (advanced working knowledge preferred).
- Directory services: AD, ADFS, Azure AD, GPO.
- Robust understanding of networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls.
- Automation using PowerShell/Bash/Python.

Experience

- 5–10+ years in server/system administration.
- Strong experience handling enterprise datacenter environments.
- Proven expertise with HA/DR infrastructure and large-scale server operations.
