SEO Analyst
Department: Creative
Reports To: Digital Head THE MANDATE
Own Bizcat's organic search performance. Build the capability of the junior SEO team. Stay ahead of how search is changing.
01 YOUR ROLE The SEO Analyst is responsible for improving organic visibility, search rankings, website performance, and search-driven traffic growth across client and internal digital properties. This role executes SEO strategies, monitors performance metrics, identifies optimisation opportunities, and ensures SEO activities contribute toward measurable growth outcomes.
Critically, this role goes beyond SEO execution. The SEO Analyst also monitors and guides Junior SEO Executives — reviewing their work, tracking their output, and building their capability. This is a senior SEO position that combines hands-on execution with team leadership.
The SEO Analyst is expected to stay ahead of how search is evolving — including Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO), Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO), and new algorithm updates — and take immediate, informed action when the landscape changes.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS
Search visibility directly impacts
– Website traffic and organic lead generation
– Brand discoverability across search platforms
– Content reach and long-term digital growth
– AI search visibility — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and voice assistants
Without structured SEO execution and leadership:
– Rankings stagnate and traffic declines
– Technical issues remain unresolved
– Junior SEO work lacks direction and quality
– AI-driven search channels are missed entirely
– Websites lose visibility against competitors
02 YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
These are not areas you assist with. These are outcomes you own.
1. SEO Strategy Execution
– Execute on-page, off-page, and technical SEO activities across all assigned client websites
– Implement SEO optimisation recommendations with clear timelines and follow-through
– Own keyword targeting and search visibility improvement across all assigned properties
– Ensure SEO best practices are applied consistently across every digital asset
– Conduct structured SEO audits and translate findings into an actionable implementation plan
2. Keyword Research & Optimisation
– Research and identify target keywords based on client business objectives and search opportunities
– Map keywords to pages and own the execution of each mapping decision
– Optimise website pages, blogs, metadata, content structure, and internal linking
– Monitor keyword ranking movement weekly — not monthly, weekly
– Identify content gaps, long-tail opportunities, and question-based search targets
3. Technical SEO
– Identify and document all technical SEO issues affecting performance and indexing
– Coordinate with developers and designers when technical implementation is required
– Monitor crawlability, indexing, page speed, mobile responsiveness, and site health
– Track every technical issue from identification to resolution — nothing stays open without a flag
– Escalate issues that require development intervention the same day they are identified
4. AEO & GEO — Answer Engine & Generative Engine Optimisation
– Optimise content to appear in Google featured snippets, People Also Ask, and answer box positions
– Structure FAQs, how-to content, and schema markup to capture answer engine visibility
– Monitor and optimise for AI-driven search — ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and voice search
– Track which client pages appear in AI-generated responses and build a monthly visibility report
– Research and implement GEO strategies as AI search continues to evolve
– Brief the content team on AEO and GEO content requirements
5. SEO Tools — Ownership and Proficiency
– Own the SEO toolset for all assigned clients — Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Ahrefs or SEMrush, Screaming Frog, and any client-specific tools
– Maintain clean, updated dashboards and tracking setups for every client property
– Identify new tools or AI-powered SEO capabilities that could improve execution quality
– Train junior team members on tool usage and interpretation of data
– Ensure all tools are properly configured — tracking, goals, Search Console verification
6. New Algorithm Monitoring — Early Detection & Immediate Action
– Monitor Google algorithm updates, search industry news, and ranking signal changes in real time
– Identify algorithm updates the day they are announced — not after the client notices a traffic drop
– Assess the impact of each update on assigned client properties immediately
– Take necessary corrective or protective action within 48 hours of a confirmed update
– Document the update, the impact assessment, and the actions taken for every client affected
– Share a structured algorithm update briefing with the team when a major update occurs
7. Monitoring Junior SEO Executives
– Review the weekly output of Junior SEO Executives — quality of briefs, tracking accuracy, on-page work
– Ensure Junior SEO Executives are following the correct methodology and best practices
– Provide specific, actionable feedback — not general direction, but accurate corrections
– Track Junior SEO workload and flag capacity or quality concerns to the Digital Marketing Lead
– Build Junior SEO capability through weekly check-ins and structured guidance sessions
– Escalate persistent performance issues through the correct HR and management channel
8. SEO Reporting & Analytics
– Prepare and deliver weekly SEO performance reports every Friday by 5 PM for all active clients
– Reports must include: key metric movements, what changed, why, and what action is being taken
– Monthly report must include AEO and GEO visibility data alongside standard SEO metrics
– Maintain Google Analytics and Search Console health for all client properties
– Flag any significant traffic drop or indexing issue the same day it is detected
9. Content & Optimisation Coordination
– Coordinate with the content team to ensure all new content is SEO-brief-compliant before publication
– Optimise published blogs, landing pages, and website pages for target keywords
– Provide structured content briefs that the content team can execute against without repeated clarification
– Maintain consistency of optimisation standards across all client projects
03 YOUR OWNERSHIP
You see the ranking drop before the client does.
When a client's keyword cluster drops 30% overnight, you identify it in the morning monitoring before anyone asks. You check the Search Console first, then check for algorithm update news, then assess the impact. By the time you flag it to the PM, you already have a hypothesis and a plan.
You catch algorithm updates before they catch you.
When Google announces a core update, you do not wait for the traffic to drop. You assess which client sites are most exposed, which content categories are at risk, and what protective actions can be taken. You act within 48 hours, not 48 days.
Your junior team produces better work because you are in it.
Junior SEO Executives produce work that reflects the standard you hold them to. When their keyword tracking is sloppy, you catch it in your weekly review and correct it with specifics. When their on-page work is below standard, you show them exactly why and how to improve it. The team gets better because you are directly involved, not because you delegate and hope.
Your reports answer questions before they are asked.
When organic traffic dropped this week, your Friday report explains why, what changed, and what you are already doing about it. The PM and client should never have to ask.

WHAT YOU CAN DECIDE WITHOUT ASKING
– SEO audits, keyword research approach, and optimisation priorities for assigned clients
– On-page optimisation decisions -- metadata, headers, internal links, image alt tags, content structure
– How the weekly report is structured and presented
– Keyword tracking organisation and methodology
– Standard off-page activities -- citation building, directory submissions
– Feedback and correction to Junior SEO Executives on their daily work
– AEO and GEO optimisation recommendations within existing content
Escalate these immediately:
– Significant traffic drops affecting a client's organic lead volume
– Algorithm updates confirmed to have impacted a client's rankings substantially
– Technical issues requiring developer access or CMS-level changes
– Any Google penalty signal or manual action notice
– Persistent performance or quality issues with Junior SEO Executives that have not responded to direct feedback
– New SEO tool subscriptions or budget-related decisions
WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT
This role is NOT:
– Limited to keyword tracking and monthly reports
– A reactive support role that waits for problems to surface
– An individual contributor role with no leadership accountability
– A role where algorithm changes and AEO/GEO are someone else's responsibility
– Dependent on repeated management follow-ups for task completion
This role IS:
– The senior SEO authority at Bizcat across all client properties
– Responsible for the quality of Junior SEO output
– Proactive on algorithm changes, AEO, GEO, and new search developments
– Accountable for measurable organic performance, not just activity
– Expected to bring solutions, not just reports
BEHAVIOURS THAT WILL HOLD YOU BACK
– Reactive monitoring -- waiting for a client to notice a traffic drop is a failure of the daily monitoring routine
– Ignoring algorithm updates -- every major update is an opportunity or a risk, and both require immediate assessment
– Vague feedback to Junior SEO Executives -- 'do it better' is not guidance, specific corrections are
– Treating AEO and GEO as optional -- AI search is already where your clients' customers are looking
– Inconsistent reporting -- a report delivered late or with gaps is not a report, it is a liability
– Sitting on technical issues -- every unescalated technical issue is a day of lost search performance
– Measuring yourself by activity, not outcomes -- keyword tracked is not the same as keyword ranking
