About the Role

We are a growing U.S.-based supermarket and retail business seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Accountant to take ownership of our accounting, financial reporting, and operational analysis.

This is not simply a bookkeeping or data-entry role. We need someone who can look at the numbers, recognize when something does not make sense, investigate discrepancies, and explain what is happening financially.

You will work directly with management to maintain accurate books, understand store-level performance, improve processes, and become a trusted long-term member of the business.

A Chartered Accountant or CPA qualification is not required. Strong practical accounting experience, QuickBooks proficiency, and advanced Excel skills are essential.

Responsibilities

- Own day-to-day accounting in QuickBooks, maintain the general ledger, complete month-end close, and prepare accurate profit-and-loss statements and balance sheets.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable, reconcile vendor statements, investigate invoice discrepancies, and provide payroll support.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, cash deposits, and point-of-sale settlements; investigate and resolve differences.
- Reconcile inventory records and analyze product costs, cost of goods sold, gross margins, inventory losses, and store-level performance.
- Prepare useful weekly and monthly reports, cash-flow updates, and Excel-based KPI dashboards for management.
- Independently identify accounting errors, document findings,



improve existing processes, and follow issues through to resolution.

What We Are Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including responsibility for reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Excellent QuickBooks skills and advanced Excel proficiency, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP or equivalent lookup functions, Power Query, and financial analysis.
- Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals, inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and gross-margin analysis.
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business, or a related field, or equivalent professional qualifications and relevant experience.
- Excellent written and spoken English, strong organization, sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work independently.

Retail, supermarket, wholesale, distribution, or other inventory-heavy business experience is strongly preferred. Experience supporting U.S. businesses is an advantage. We welcome applicants who have personally owned a complete set of books, not just one accounting process within a larger team.

Working Arrangement

This is a long-term, full-time remote position, working directly with our business.

A full U.S. Eastern Time schedule is not required. We will arrange regular communication and management check-ins at mutually agreed times. Reliable internet and a suitable home-office setup are required.

There is potential to grow into broader finance and operations leadership role as the business expands.
