Role & responsibilities

- Role Overview
- We are looking for a hands-on Software Test Engineer on Cisco Routing and SD-WAN feature testing. The engineer will validate new networking features, develop Python-based test automation, troubleshoot complex system issues, and help improve product quality across SD-WAN and routing platforms.
- This role is well suited to someone with strong Python and Linux skills who enjoys hands-on testing, debugging, automation, and learning networking technologies.

- Key Responsibilities
- Test Cisco SD-WAN and routing features across functional, integration, regression, negative, scalability, and reliability scenarios.
- Design detailed test plans, test cases, and network topologies based on product requirements.
- Develop and maintain automated test scripts and supporting tools using Python.
- Configure and operate Linux-based test environments, networking devices, controllers, virtual machines, and test infrastructure.
- Reproduce, isolate, and troubleshoot software and system-level defects.
- Analyze logs, packet captures, protocol behavior,



system state, and test results to identify root causes.
- Report defects clearly and collaborate with development, QA, and automation engineers through resolution.
- Improve test coverage, automation reliability, execution efficiency, and regression quality.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate coding, debugging, test design, documentation, and analysis.
- Participate in technical reviews and communicate risks, results, and blockers clearly.

- Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of software industry experience in testing, software development, test automation, or a related engineering role.
- Robust hands-on Python programming capability, including scripting, debugging, data processing, and automation development.
- Strong Linux operation and troubleshooting skills, including shell commands, processes, filesystems, networking utilities, logs, and basic system administration.
- Experience designing, executing, and debugging software or system-level tests.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently set up test environments, investigate failures, and drive issues toward resolution.
- Working knowledge of software development and testing practices, including source control, defect tracking, code reviews, and regression testing.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

- Preferred Networking Knowledge
- Ethernet and IP networking; TCP/IP and common application protocols.




- IPv4 and IPv6; routing and switching.
- Routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, or EIGRP.
- SD-WAN architecture, policies, controllers, and edge devices.
- NAT, ACLs, firewalls, VPNs, and network security.
- VLANs, tunnels, overlays, and underlay networks.
- High availability, redundancy, and failover.
- Network troubleshooting using tools such as tcpdump, Wireshark, ping, traceroute, and Linux networking utilities.
- AI-Assisted Engineering Skills
- Familiarity with AI coding or agentic engineering tools such as Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, OpenClaw, or similar tools.
- Ability to use AI tools responsibly for coding, test generation, troubleshooting, log analysis, documentation, and productivity improvement.
- Understanding that AI-generated work must be reviewed, validated, and handled according to company security and confidentiality requirements.

- Additional Preferred Skills
- Experience testing routers, switches, network operating systems, or distributed systems.
- Experience with test automation frameworks, REST APIs, JSON/YAML, Git, CI/CD, containers, or virtualization.
- Familiarity with Cisco IOS XE, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN, or similar networking platforms.
- Experience working with geographically distributed engineering teams.
- Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate is curious, practical, and comfortable working close to the product. They can write solid Python code, navigate Linux confidently, build and troubleshoot test environments, and investigate difficult failures with limited supervision. Deep networking expertise is valuable, but candidates with strong software fundamentals and the motivation to learn networking are also encouraged to apply.
