Key Responsibilities & Duties

Procedure Support

- Directly assist gastroenterologists and nursing staff during upper gastrointestinal endoscopies (EGD), colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, ERCPs, and manometry tests.
- Handle, pass, and manage endoscopic accessories (such as biopsy forceps, snares, cytology brushes, and sclerotherapy needles) safely and efficiently.

Equipment Handling & Reprocessing

- Perform meticulous pre-cleaning, leak testing, high-level disinfection (HLD), and sterilization of versatile endoscopes and ancillary equipment following strict hospital infection control guidelines.
- Inspect, maintain, and troubleshoot technical equipment, reporting any malfunctions immediately to minimize operational downtime.
- Maintain accurate scope-tracking logs to trace which scope was used for which patient.

Patient Care & Safety

- Prepare procedure suites prior to cases, ensuring all emergency drugs, suction units, and diagnostic tools are fully stocked and operational.
- Assist in welcoming patients, verifying identity and informed consent, recording baseline vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and positioning.
- Monitor patients closely during and immediately after procedures, identifying and escalating any warning signs or adverse reactions to the attending physician.





Specimen & Documentation Management

- Accurately collect, label, log, and transport biopsy and cytology specimens to the pathology department in compliance with laboratory protocols.
- Maintain digital and physical procedure registers, inventory logs, and quality control documentation for decontamination cycles.

3. Qualifications & Competencies

- Education: Diploma or Degree in Endoscopy Technology, Operation Theatre Technology (OTT), Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT), or equivalent paramedical course.
- Experience: [Insert e.g., 1 to 3 years] of hands-on experience in a dedicated hospital endoscopy suite or gastroenterology department.
- Certifications: Valid certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Specialized training certification (such as through recognized bodies like SGEI) is an added advantage.

- Core Skills:
- In-depth understanding of gastrointestinal anatomy and sterile techniques.
- High attention to detail regarding rigorous infection control protocols.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and proactive during high-pressure or emergency clinical situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient reassurance.
