Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Full Stack Developer (Backend-Focused) with a minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience.

The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Node.js, backend architecture, API development, databases, and Python, along with the ability to develop frontend applications and integrate third-party services. The candidate should be comfortable working independently, translating business requirements into functional software, writing clean and maintainable code, and taking responsibility for project delivery.

The role requires someone who can write code and develop programming logic independently, without relying on AI tools to generate or solve core programming tasks. AI tools may be used where appropriate for productivity, but candidates must demonstrate strong foundational programming skills, problem-solving ability, and ownership of the code they produce.

The candidate should also possess strong project management, communication, documentation, and team collaboration skills, with the potential to lead developers and manage technical delivery when required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Backend Development & System Architecture Design, develop, and maintain scalable and secure backend applications using Node.js and relevant frameworks. Develop robust RESTful APIs and, where relevant, GraphQL APIs and microservices. Write clean, modular, reusable, and well-documented code. Design and optimize database structures, queries, and data models. Develop backend services using Python when required for automation, data processing, AI/ML integration, and other technology applications. Implement authentication, authorization, role-based access controls, and appropriate security practices. Ensure backend systems are reliable, scalable, and maintainable.

2. Full Stack Development

- Develop and maintain frontend applications using relevant technologies such as React.js, Next.js, or equivalent frameworks.
- Integrate frontend applications with backend APIs and third-party services.
- Build responsive, user-friendly, and functional web applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve frontend, backend, integration, and performance issues.
- Collaborate on end-to-end product development, from requirements and architecture to deployment and maintenance.

- Product & Platform Development Translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable development tasks. Work on technology platforms related to financial services, digital applications, data systems, agriculture, livelihoods, and other organizational initiatives. Develop integrations with external APIs, payment systems, identity/KYC services, and other relevant technology platforms as required. Contribute to the development of scalable and secure digital products. Identify opportunities to improve existing systems, processes, and technology architecture.

Independent Development & Problem Solving Take end-to-end ownership of assigned projects and technical deliverables. Demonstrate the ability to independently write code, develop logic, debug issues, and solve programming problems. Work effectively without continuous supervision or dependency on other developers. Understand existing codebases and independently implement enhancements and fixes. Use AI-assisted development tools responsibly, where appropriate, while maintaining the ability to explain, validate, test, and maintain all code written.
2. Project Management & Technical Ownership Plan development activities, timelines, milestones, and deliverables. Break down requirements into tasks and prioritize work effectively. Track project progress, identify risks, and communicate potential delays proactively. Coordinate with internal teams, product owners, designers, and external technology partners. Lead technical execution or coordinate other developers when required. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software and technical solutions.

3. Documentation & Communication Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation. Document system architecture, APIs, database structures, deployment processes, and operational procedures. Prepare development plans, progress updates, issue logs, and project handover documentation. Communicate technical challenges, dependencies, and project risks proactively. Maintain effective communication with management and cross-functional teams.

Ensure knowledge transfer and continuity of development work.

4. Team Collaboration & Leadership Work independently as the primary developer on selected projects. Collaborate with existing team members and external developers. Provide technical guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior developers when required. Support recruitment, task allocation, and performance monitoring of development resources as the team grows. Take a leadership role in technical delivery when assigned.

Required Skills & Technical Expertise Backend Development (Core Requirement) Strong professional experience with Node.js. Expertise in Express.js, NestJS, or comparable backend frameworks. Strong understanding of API development, backend architecture, and asynchronous programming.

Experience with authentication, authorization, validation, error handling, and security.

Programming Languages JavaScript / TypeScript. Python, for backend services, automation, data processing, or AI/ML-related applications. Ability to learn and work with other relevant programming languages and frameworks as required. Strong understanding of programming fundamentals, algorithms, and logic.

Database & Data Management Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, or equivalent databases. Strong understanding of database design, SQL, indexing, and query optimization. Experience with data modeling, migrations, and database security. Familiarity with Redis or other caching technologies is an advantage.

Frontend Development Experience with React.js, Next.js, or equivalent frontend frameworks. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive web development. API integration, frontend state management, and user interface implementation.

DevOps & Development Practices Git and GitHub/GitLab. Familiarity with Linux environments and deployment processes. Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP. Docker, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging knowledge is an advantage. Understanding of automated testing and debugging practices.

API & Third-Party Integrations Experience integrating external APIs and services. Familiarity with payment gateways, authentication/KYC APIs, financial technology integrations, or other enterprise APIs is desirable. Understanding of API security, webhooks, and integration testing.
