We are looking for an experienced Editor with strong English-language expertise and a solid background in school/educational publishing to work closely with our in-office technology team on the development of AI-powered tools for publishing workflows.

This is a unique role at the intersection of editorial expertise, publishing processes and technology. The editor will act as the editorial expert within the product development process, helping us test, evaluate and refine AI tools designed to make publishing workflows such as copyediting, proofreading, language checking and editorial review faster, more accurate and efficient.

The role requires someone with a sharp editorial eye who can go beyond identifying whether an AI-generated edit is simply right or wrong. The person should be able to explain why an editorial decision works or does not work, identify patterns in errors, anticipate publishing-specific requirements, and translate editorial judgement into explicit, actionable feedback for the technology team.

Key Responsibilities

1. Work closely with the technology and product teams to test and evaluate AI-powered editorial tools being developed for publishing workflows.
2. Test AI outputs across processes such as copyediting, proofreading, grammar and language correction, consistency checking, style adherence and other editorial quality checks.
3. Assess whether suggested edits are grammatically correct, contextually appropriate, stylistically sound and suitable for school publishing.
4. Identify false corrections, missed errors, unnecessary interventions, inconsistencies and contextual errors in AI-generated suggestions.
5. Provide clear, structured and actionable feedback to the technology team to help improve tool performance.
6. Create and test different editorial scenarios, including difficult, ambiguous and edge cases, to understand where the tool performs well and where it fails.
7. Help define what constitutes a high-quality editorial output for different publishing tasks.
8. Develop sample content, test cases,



expected outputs and editorial benchmarks that can be used to evaluate the tool systematically.
9. Review tool behaviour against established style guides, editorial conventions and publishing requirements.
10. Help the technology team understand the nuances of editorial decision-making, including situations where editorial judgement depends on context rather than a fixed grammatical rule.
11. Participate actively in product discussions and provide an editor's perspective on features, workflows and usability.
12. Test new versions and features, document issues and verify whether previously identified editorial problems have been resolved.
13. Contribute ideas for additional AI-assisted workflows that could improve efficiency and quality across the publishing process.

Skills and Experience

1. Excellent command of the English language, with particularly strong grammar, punctuation, spelling, syntax and usage skills.
2. Strong professional experience in editing educational or school publishing content.
3. Hands-on experience with copyediting and proofreading is essential.
4. Strong understanding of editorial conventions, style guides and quality-control processes used in publishing.
5. Ability to distinguish between grammatical correctness, stylistic preference and genuine editorial improvement.
6. Ability to edit and evaluate content while considering learner age, reading level, clarity, appropriacy and educational context.
7. Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to spot subtle inconsistencies or language issues.
8. Strong analytical skills and an ability to identify patterns across multiple editorial outputs.
9. Ability to articulate editorial reasoning clearly to colleagues who may not have a publishing or language background.
10. Comfortable working collaboratively with technology/product teams and testing evolving versions of a product.
11. Curiosity about AI and its application within publishing workflows.
12. Comfortable experimenting, questioning outputs and repeatedly testing different approaches rather than working only within traditional editorial processes.
