J ob Description:

V alor Paytech is seeking an experienced DB Engineer to ensure our databases remain available, secure, and reliable. The Database Engineer will continuously test data integrity to guard against corruption and perform regular updates to keep pace with evolving database technologies, while supporting performance, scalability, and reliability across our environments.

Key Responsibilities

D atabase Administration & Maintenance

M o- nitor the health of database servers through both automated and manual processes. P e- rform environment setup and configuration, along with proactive monitoring and maintenance. P e- rform database administration and maintenance, including installation, configuration, backups, upgrades, and patching. S e- t up and maintain automatic backup and recovery mechanisms using cronjobs. A d- minister and maintain end-user accounts, permissions, and access rights.

P erformance & Optimization

R e- commend and implement solutions for performance monitoring and tuning. E v- aluate the performance of stored procedures, identify time- and resource-consuming areas, and provide input to application developers to address them.

A n- alyze access patterns and propose the best combination of indexes, constraints, foreign keys, and queries. R e- view SQL code written by application developers to ensure compliance with coding standards, best practices, and maximum performance.

R e- view, optimize, and develop queries based on requirements.

R eliability & Troubleshooting A n- alyze problems, anticipate future problem areas, and implement solutions.



I n- vestigate and identify the root cause of software problems reported by stakeholders. T r- oubleshoot database and Linux server issues by analyzing logs and using command-line utilities.

M a- intain scalability (clustering) and availability (replication), including working knowledge of Galera cluster. P r- oactively identify technical opportunities and enhancements while addressing major incidents in a timely manner.

P a- rticipate in an on-call rotation providing 24×7 support, including off-hours maintenance windows.

D ata Governance & Security

M a- nage and ensure the integrity, security, and retention of data. C r- eate deployment and rollback scripts for all database objects, manually or auto-generated.

C ollaboration & Delivery

S u- pport the development of long- and short-term requirements for database administration and design. P a- rticipate in the change control process for all planned application and technical activities.

W o- rk with report writers to provide the data needed for reports. T a- ke on full roadmap items, work with other functional teams, and deliver high-quality results on time. D i- rect the organization of requirements and data into a usable database schema, including development of ad hoc queries, scripts, and updates to existing queries.

W o- rk closely with the application development team, including query review and version control via GitLab.

R equired Qualifications





B a- chelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline is required; equivalent experience may substitute for the education requirement. 3 +- years of experience with relational databases such as MariaDB, MySQL, NoSQL, and above. 3 +- years of experience with automation using shell scripting (Shell, Perl, Python, etc.).

W o- rking understanding of technologies including MariaDB/MySQL, NoSQL, and PostgreSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.). W o- rking technical knowledge and experience with current Linux operating systems. S t- rong problem-solving and analytical skills. P r- oficient in relational databases, backup, and recovery. C o- mfortable with shell scripting and related scripting procedures.

P referred Qualifications

S t- rong hands-on experience with MySQL; PostgreSQL is a plus but optional. E x- perience with Aurora/RDS, ProxySQL, and Percona / PMM / Grafana. K n- owledge of Galera cluster for clustering, scalability, and replication-based availability. E x- perience working with application development teams, including query review and GitLab. S t- rong exposure to Linux resource and process monitoring, and scripting basics (shell, Python, or similar).
