Job Summary The CTOT Nurse is responsible for providing specialized nursing care in the Cardiothoracic Operation Theatre. The role involves assisting surgeons during cardiac and thoracic procedures, preparing the OT, maintaining sterile techniques, handling specialized equipment, and ensuring patient safety before, during, and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Care

- Prepare patients for cardiothoracic surgical procedures.
- Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical checklist.
- Ensure availability of required surgical instruments, implants, and consumables.
- Assist in positioning and preparation of patients for surgery.

Intra-Operative Care

- Maintain strict aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and perfusionists during procedures.
- Function as Scrub Nurse and Circulating Nurse as required.
- Monitor equipment, instruments, and surgical supplies during surgery.
- Ensure accurate counting of sponges, needles, and instruments.

Post-Operative Care

- Assist in patient transfer to ICU/CVTS ICU.
- Complete documentation of surgical procedures.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization,



and maintenance of OT equipment.
- Report any complications, incidents, or equipment malfunctions.

Equipment Handling

- Operate and assist with specialized cardiac OT equipment.
- Maintain surgical instruments and ensure readiness for procedures.
- Coordinate with CSSD for instrument sterilization and availability.

Eligibility Criteria
- B.Sc Nursing / GNM Nursing.
- Valid Nursing Council Registration.
- 1-5 years of experience in Cardiothoracic OT/Cardiac OT.
- Knowledge of cardiac surgical procedures and OT protocols.
- BLS/ACLS certification preferred.

Required Skills

- OT infection control and sterile techniques.
- Emergency response and critical thinking.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
- Documentation and patient safety compliance.

Preferred Experience
- Exposure to CABG, Valve Replacement, Thoracic Surgeries, and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Procedures.
- Experience in NABH/JCI-accredited hospitals preferred.
