Job Summary The CNC &
- VMC Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC turning and VMC machines to manufacture components as per engineering drawings, production schedules, quality standards, and specified tolerances. The operator ensures safe machine operation, accurate component production, proper tooling, and timely completion of production targets.
Roles and Responsibilities
1. Machine Operation
- Operate CNC turning machines and VMC machines safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload raw materials and finished components.
- Monitor machine operation throughout the machining cycle.
- Follow production plans and achieve daily production targets.
- Maintain proper machine utilization and reduce unnecessary machine idle time.
1. Machine Setup
- Perform machine setup according to job requirements.
- Install and align tools, holders, fixtures, collets, chucks, and workpieces.
- Set work offsets, tool offsets, tool length compensation, and wear offsets.
- Check component zero/reference positions before starting production.
- Perform trial runs and first-piece checks after setup or tool changes.
1. CNC Program Handling
- Load approved CNC programs into the machine controller.
- Understand and make minor program/offset corrections when authorized.
- Verify G-code and M-code during setup and troubleshooting.
- Perform dry runs and single-block checks before production.
- Report program-related issues to the programmer, supervisor, or manufacturing engineer.
1. Drawing &
- Technical Understanding
- Read and understand engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances, and GD&T;.
- Understand machining sequences and job specifications.
- Identify critical dimensions and special inspection requirements.
- Follow process sheets, work instructions, and setup sheets.
1. Tool &
- Cutting Parameter Management
- Select and install appropriate cutting tools and inserts.
- Monitor tool wear and tool life.
- Replace damaged or worn tools as required.
- Maintain appropriate cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut according to the approved process.
- Report abnormal tool wear, vibration, chatter, or surface-finish problems.
1. Quality Inspection
- Inspect components during and after machining.
- Use instruments such as:
- Vernier caliper
- Outside/inside micrometer
- Height gauge
- Bore gauge
- Dial gauge
- Thread gauges
- Plug/ring gauges
- Record inspection results as required.
- Ensure components meet drawing specifications and tolerance requirements.
- Immediately inform the supervisor/quality department when non-conforming parts are identified.
1. Troubleshooting
- Identify common machining problems such as:
- Dimensional variation
- Tool breakage
- Chatter/vibration
- Poor surface finish
- Incorrect offsets
- Improper tool selection
- Workpiece movement
- Machine alarms
- Make routine adjustments within authorized limits.
- Escalate electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or control-system problems to maintenance personnel.
1. Production Documentation
- Maintain production, rejection,
rework, tool-change, and inspection records.
- Record machine downtime and reasons for stoppage.
- Complete shift handover information accurately.
- Follow traceability requirements for materials and components.
1. Safety & 5S
- Follow all machine safety and PPE requirements.
- Maintain proper housekeeping around the machine.
- Follow 5S practices in the machining area.
- Handle cutting tools, coolant, chips, and workpieces safely.
- Never bypass machine guards, interlocks, or safety devices.
- Follow proper procedures during machine cleaning and maintenance.
1. Coordination &
- Teamwork
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Tool Room, Maintenance, and Engineering teams.
- Communicate machine or quality problems promptly.
- Support setup changes and new-job trials.
- Assist in improving machining processes, cycle time, productivity, and quality.
Required Skills
- CNC/VMC machine operating experience.
- Basic knowledge of CNC controls and G-code/M-code.
- Ability to read engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and machining processes.
- Knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
- Basic understanding of tolerances and GD&T.;
- Ability to identify machining defects and take corrective action.
- Valuable awareness of workplace safety and 5S.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
Qualification &
- Experience
Qualification:
- ITI – Fitter / Machinist / Turner
- Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Manufacturing Engineering
Experience:
- Fresher or Experienced
Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
