1. Export Accounting
- Record export sales and export invoices.
- Track export receivables and payment realization.
- Maintain shipping/invoice-wise records.
- Reconcile export invoices with bank receipts.
- Track outstanding export bills.
1. Import Accounting
- Record import purchases and supplier invoices.
- Account for Bill of Entry, customs duty, IGST and other import charges.
- Reconcile import transactions with ICEGATE/customs documents.
- Calculate the landed cost of imported goods.
1. Foreign Currency Accounting
- Record USD/EUR/GBP and other foreign-currency transactions.
- Apply appropriate exchange rates.
- Record exchange gain/loss.
- Reconcile foreign-currency bank accounts and receivables/payables.
1. GST & Tax Compliance
- GST return preparation and reconciliation.
- Export under LUT/Bond or payment of IGST, as applicable.
- Input Tax Credit reconciliation.
- TDS compliance and return support.
- Income-tax computation and audit support.
1. Banking & Export Realisation
- Monitor export payments received from overseas customers.
- Reconcile bank realization with export invoices.
- Coordinate with the bank for export documentation and realization-related matters.
- Maintain records for outstanding export receivables.
1. Import/Export Documentation
- Maintain and verify:
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Purchase Order
- Bill of Lading / Airway Bill
- Shipping Bill
- Bill of Entry
- Letter of Credit, where applicable
- Monthly P&L; and Balance Sheet.
- Export/import-wise profitability.
- Customer-wise and supplier-wise outstanding.
- Foreign exchange gain/loss report.
- Cash-flow and working-capital reports.
- Import landed-cost analysis.
1. Audit & Compliance Support
- Provide records for statutory/tax audits.
- Maintain proper supporting documents for every import/export transaction.
- Coordinate with CA, auditor, customs consultant, freight forwarder and bank.
Additional responsibilities for an Import-Export Accountant
- Maintain IEC-related records and coordinate with consultants for DGFT matters.
- Understand HSN/HS Code, customs valuation and applicable duties.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders and CHA/customs agents.
- Monitor SCOMET applicability, where relevant.
- Maintain documentation for export incentives/refunds, wherever applicable.
