To manage the complete plant operation, including production, maintenance, quality, manpower, safety, material control and dispatch, while achieving production targets at the lowest possible cost and maintaining consistent product quality.
Key Roles and Responsibilities1. Production Management
- Plan daily, weekly and monthly production as per customer orders.
- Operate and supervise injection moulding machines, bucket moulds and auxiliary equipment.
- Achieve production targets, machine utilization and cycle-time targets.
- Control production of 20-litre buckets, lids, handles and other components.
- Reduce machine downtime, rejection, material wastage and rework.
- Ensure correct machine settings, mould changes and product changeovers.
- Monitor cycle time, output per hour, shot weight and production efficiency.
- Maintain proper production records and shift reports.
- Implement lean manufacturing, 5S and continuous improvement practices.
2. Machine and Mould Management
- Ensure proper operation of injection moulding machines, typically in the 400–700 ton range, depending on product and mould design.
- Coordinate mould installation, removal, trial and changeover activities.
- Ensure regular inspection and preventive maintenance of:
- Injection moulding machines
- Bucket and lid moulds
- Chillers
- Cooling towers
- Compressors
- Material loaders and dryers
- Robots and conveyors
- Grinders and other auxiliary equipment
- Maintain mould history, maintenance records and repair schedules.
- Coordinate with machine and mould suppliers for technical support.
3. Quality Control
- Ensure that every production batch meets approved specifications.
- Monitor:
- Weight
- Dimensions
- Wall thickness
- Handle fitment
- Lid fit and sealing
- Surface finish
- Colour consistency
- Warpage
- Flash
- Short moulding
- Sink marks
- Black spots and contamination
- Establish first-piece approval after every mould change or colour change.
- Conduct or coordinate drop tests, stacking tests, leakage tests and handle-load tests.
- Reduce customer complaints and internal rejection.
- Ensure traceability of raw material and finished products.
- Work with the quality team to implement corrective and preventive actions.
4. Raw Material and Inventory Control
- Plan consumption of polypropylene and masterbatch according to production requirements.
- Control virgin resin, recycled material and regrind usage according to approved product specifications.
- Ensure correct material drying, mixing and feeding.
- Monitor material wastage and maintain acceptable regrind limits.
- Coordinate with stores and purchase departments to avoid material shortages.
- Verify incoming raw materials and packaging materials.
- Maintain stock levels for spare parts, mould components and consumables.
5. Manpower Management
- Prepare manpower requirements and shift schedules.
- Supervise production supervisors, machine operators, helpers, technicians, quality inspectors and material handlers.
- Train employees in machine operation, product quality, safety and housekeeping.
- Allocate manpower according to machine and production requirements.
- Monitor attendance, discipline and employee performance.
- Build a trained team capable of operating machines on all shifts.
- Conduct toolbox meetings and daily production reviews.
6. Maintenance Coordination
- Establish preventive and breakdown maintenance systems.
- Monitor machine breakdown frequency and mean time between failures.
- Ensure timely servicing of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical and control systems.
- Maintain critical spare-parts inventory.
- Coordinate with maintenance engineers and external service providers.
- Investigate repeated breakdowns and implement permanent solutions.
7.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure safe operation of injection moulding machines and material-handling equipment.
- Enforce the use of PPE, including safety shoes, gloves, eye protection and hearing protection where required.
- Maintain machine guarding and emergency-stop systems.
- Conduct safety training and emergency drills.
- Ensure proper handling of hot plastic, moulds, lifting equipment and electrical systems.
- Maintain fire-fighting equipment and emergency exits.
- Investigate accidents and implement preventive measures.
- Ensure compliance with applicable labour, environmental and factory regulations.
8. Cost and Productivity Control
- Monitor production cost per bucket.
- Control:
- Material consumption
- Electricity consumption
- Labour cost
- Rejection and rework
- Maintenance cost
- Packaging cost
- Improve overall equipment effectiveness, or OEE.
- Track the following key indicators:
- Production quantity
- Good production percentage
- Rejection percentage
- Machine utilization
- Cycle time
- Downtime
- Energy consumption
- Material variance
- On-time delivery
9. Planning, Dispatch and Coordination
- Coordinate with sales and planning departments regarding production priorities.
- Prepare the production plan according to delivery schedules.
- Coordinate with stores and dispatch teams for finished-goods movement.
- Ensure proper packing and protection of buckets and lids.
- Prevent mixing of colours, sizes, batches or customer orders.
- Support timely dispatch and customer delivery.
10. Reporting
The Plant Operations Head should submit regular reports covering:
- Daily production
- Machine-wise output
- Rejection and rework
- Machine downtime
- Mould-change time
- Material consumption
- Maintenance status
- Manpower attendance
- Safety incidents
- Customer complaints
- Corrective actions
- Monthly productivity and cost performance
Pay: ₹559,558.07 - ₹1,945,602.46 per year
