Financial Controller — Job Description

Location: Mumbai (office based, supporting a UK business)

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to take ownership of the day-to-day financial operations of the business. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the integrity of financial reporting, statutory compliance, internal controls, and management of the finance team. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving financial discipline and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting

- Oversee preparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L;, balance sheet, and cash flow statements
- Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes
- Prepare statutory accounts in accordance with UK GAAP/FRS 102 (or IFRS, as applicable)
- Manage the year-end audit process and act as primary liaison with external auditors

Compliance & Controls

- Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, including VAT returns, PAYE, and Corporation Tax filings
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial policies, and procedures
- Ensure compliance with Companies House filing requirements and other statutory obligations
- Monitor changes in UK tax legislation and accounting standards, ensuring the business remains compliant

Budgeting & Forecasting

- Lead the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting/re-forecasting cycles
- Provide variance analysis against budget and prior periods, with clear commentary for senior stakeholders
- Support cash flow forecasting and working capital management

Team Leadership

- Manage,



mentor, and develop a team of 10 accounts/finance staff
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
- Set objectives, conduct performance reviews, and identify training needs within the team

Business Partnering & Strategic Support

- Provide financial insight and analysis to support commercial and operational decision-making
- Partner with department heads on budget management and cost control
- Support the CEO with ad hoc projects, board reporting, and investor/stakeholder reporting
- Identify and implement process improvements, including systems and automation opportunities

Person Specification

Essential

- CA, CMA (or equivalent) qualified
- Minimum 3–5 years' post-qualification experience, ideally including a Financial Controller or senior finance role
- Strong technical knowledge of UK GAAP and HMRC compliance requirements
- Proven experience managing month-end close and statutory reporting processes
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with accounting software (e.g. Xero, Quickbooks or Sage)
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-finance stakeholders

Desirable

- Experience in a fast moving environment
- Experience working in a PE-backed or high-growth environment
- Knowledge of IFRS

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹1,800,000.00 - ₹2,400,000.00 per year
