Position Overview

Purpose & Scope:

Ralph Lauren is progressing a multi-year transformation across ERP, integrated business planning, data and analytics. This transformation is changing how critical business data is created, managed and used across functions, systems and geographies.

As part of this journey, Ralph Lauren is establishing an enterprise data governance capability to ensure that priority data is clearly owned, consistently defined, understood and trusted.

The Data Governance Manager will lead the application and adoption of governance across assigned business domains and data product areas. Working closely with business stakeholders, Data Product Management, Data Engineering, Architecture, Data Science, Analytics and delivery partners, the role will help establish practical approaches across data ownership and stewardship, business definitions, metadata and lineage, data quality, and governance issue management.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role with responsibility for leading assigned governance initiatives. The successful candidate will assess governance needs, develop practical recommendations and progress agreed approaches through implementation and adoption. The role requires someone who can bring structure to areas where processes are still evolving, work effectively across business and technology teams, and translate governance principles into practical ways of working.

The role will work across the wider governance agenda, while allowing the successful candidate to bring deeper experience in areas such as business ownership and stewardship, data quality and controls, metadata,



lineage or technical governance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

A) Embed business ownership and stewardship

- Partner with business leaders to establish and embed business-led data ownership and stewardship.
- Work with business leaders to identify and onboard data owners and stewards, defining clear accountabilities, decision rights and practical ways of working.
- Facilitate agreement of critical business definitions and metrics, ensuring that content and decisions remain owned by the appropriate business stakeholders.
- Translate agreed business and data product priorities into proportionate governance requirements and implementation plans.
- Implement and operationalise practical governance routines for decision-making, issue management, escalation and follow-through.
- Enable data owners and stewards to fulfil their responsibilities without transferring business accountability to the central Data Governance team.
- Monitor adoption and effectiveness, refining the approach where required.

B) Embed governance into data products and delivery

- Work with Data Product Management, Data Engineering, Architecture and Data Science to embed governance requirements into priority data products, analytical models and delivery processes.
- Define practical requirements for ownership, business definitions, metadata, lineage, data quality, controls and governance evidence.
- Translate governance requirements into controls that technical teams can implement consistently and automate where appropriate.
- Work with business stakeholders and Data Product Management to establish data quality expectations, accountability and escalation requirements for prioritised data.
- Review delivery evidence, identify gaps and provide appropriate challenge and escalation where governance requirements are not being met.
- Ensure technical controls remain connected to business risks, decisions and accountable owners.
- Use governance and data quality findings to recommend improvements to business or technical processes.

C) Influence, assure and continuously improve

- Work across business domains, Data Product Management, Data Engineering, Architecture, Data Science, Analytics and delivery partners to integrate governance into business and technology ways of working.
- Communicate governance recommendations,



rationale and trade-offs clearly to business and technical audiences.
- Coordinate dependencies and actions across teams, escalating material risks or unresolved decisions where required.
- Develop practical guidance and enable consistent adoption of governance practices.
- Apply external good practice thoughtfully to Ralph Lauren’s priorities and operating environment.
- Contribute to the continued development and implementation of Ralph Lauren’s enterprise data governance framework.

Experience, Skills, and Knowledge

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor’s degree in data management, information systems, technology, business or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Relevant professional experience in data governance, data management, data quality, metadata, master data or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience implementing and operationalising data governance practices within a complex organisation.
- Experience establishing or supporting business-led data ownership and stewardship, with a clear understanding that accountability remains within the business.
- Broad working knowledge of business definitions, metadata, lineage, data quality, governance controls and issue management.
- Experience translating business and data priorities into practical governance requirements and implementation plans.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a defined governance initiative or domain engagement through implementation and adoption.
- Robust stakeholder-management skills, with experience working across business, product, data and technology teams.
- Ability to bring structure to evolving or ambiguous situations, make practical recommendations and explain the rationale and trade-offs.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with business and technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently following initial alignment, while recognising when decisions or risks require escalation.

Preferred

- Experience supporting enterprise transformation programmes or the establishment of new data capabilities.
- Experience in retail, consumer goods, supply chain, finance, sales, inventory or customer data.
- Experience working with data products or product-led delivery models.
- Exposure to data governance, catalogue, metadata or data quality platforms such as Atlan, Collibra, Alation, Microsoft Purview, Soda, Informatica or equivalent.
- Experience working with Data Product Management, Data Engineering, Architecture, Data Science, Analytics or distributed delivery partners.
- Familiarity with data privacy, classification, access management or regulatory requirements.
- Relevant data management or governance certification is beneficial but not essential.
