2. Job Purpose
The Civil Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day execution, supervision, monitoring and coordination of civil construction activities at project sites.
The position requires ensuring that all works are executed as per approved drawings, technical specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and project schedules, while effectively coordinating with clients, consultants, subcontractors, vendors and internal teams.
The Civil Engineer will also be responsible for maintaining proper site documentation, monitoring quantities and productivity, identifying site issues and supporting the Project Manager in achieving project targets within the approved time, cost and quality parameters.
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Project Execution
- Supervise and manage day-to-day civil construction activities at the project site.
- Execute works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements and BOQ.
- Plan daily and weekly activities in coordination with the Project Manager/Site In-charge.
- Ensure proper deployment and utilization of manpower, materials, machinery and equipment.
- Monitor work progress against the approved project schedule.
- Ensure timely completion of assigned activities and milestones.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and work crews for smooth execution of works.
- Identify site constraints and coordinate for timely resolution.
B. Site Supervision
- Supervise activities such as:
- Earthwork and excavation
- PCC and RCC works
- Reinforcement and shuttering
- Masonry works
- Plastering and finishing works
- Flooring and paving works
- Road and drainage works
- Foundations and structural works
- Underground and external development works
- Other civil and infrastructure-related activities
- Check line, level, alignment, dimensions and elevations before and during execution.
- Ensure proper sequencing of construction activities.
- Monitor workmanship and productivity of labour and subcontractors.
- Ensure that work is carried out according to approved construction methodology.
C. Drawing & Technical Coordination
- Read and understand civil, structural and architectural drawings.
- Interpret construction drawings, sections, details and specifications.
- Coordinate with the design/engineering team for drawing clarifications.
- Identify discrepancies or conflicts in drawings before execution.
- Raise RFIs/technical queries wherever required.
- Ensure the latest approved drawings are available at the site.
- Maintain proper records of drawings and revisions.
D. Quantity & Measurement
- Take site measurements and prepare measurement sheets.
- Verify quantities executed by subcontractors.
- Assist in preparation and checking of RA Bills.
- Prepare quantity statements and material requirement statements.
- Monitor actual quantities against BOQ quantities.
- Identify quantity variations and inform the Project Manager.
- Assist in preparation of rate analysis and variation statements where required.
- Maintain proper records of executed quantities.
E. Material Management
- Prepare material requirements based on project requirements and construction schedules.
- Coordinate with the procurement/store team for timely availability of materials.
- Check delivered materials for quantity and basic compliance with specifications.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of construction materials.
- Monitor material consumption and wastage.
- Maintain material reconciliation records where required.
F. Quality Control
- Ensure construction activities comply with approved quality standards and specifications.
- Coordinate with the QA/QC team for inspection and testing.
- Ensure required inspections are carried out before covering or proceeding with subsequent activities.
- Check reinforcement, shuttering, concrete, masonry and other works before execution/approval.
- Ensure concrete works comply with approved mix designs and procedures.
- Coordinate for cube testing and other required quality tests.
- Prepare and maintain inspection requests, checklists and quality records.
- Identify defective work and ensure necessary corrective action.
G. Safety Compliance
- Ensure that all site activities are carried out in accordance with applicable HSE requirements.
- Coordinate with the Safety Officer for safe execution of work.
- Ensure workers use appropriate PPE.
- Identify unsafe conditions and immediately report/escalate them.
- Ensure proper barricading, access, housekeeping and safe working practices.
- Participate in toolbox talks and site safety meetings.
- Stop or report unsafe work conditions when necessary.
H. Progress Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor daily progress of construction activities.
- Prepare Daily Progress Reports (DPR).
- Maintain labour and machinery deployment records.
- Prepare weekly/monthly progress reports as required.
- Compare planned progress with actual progress.
- Highlight delays, constraints and resource requirements to the Project Manager.
- Maintain records of site instructions, inspections and important communications.
I. Client & Consultant Coordination
- Coordinate professionally with clients, consultants and their representatives at the project site.
- Attend site meetings as required.
- Understand and communicate client/consultant instructions to the execution team.
- Follow up on inspections, approvals and technical clarifications.
- Maintain professional communication and good working relationships with stakeholders.
- Ensure site instructions are properly recorded and implemented.
J. Subcontractor Management
- Coordinate with civil subcontractors and labour contractors.
- Monitor subcontractor productivity and workmanship.
- Verify subcontractor measurements and executed quantities.
- Ensure subcontractors follow approved drawings, specifications, quality and safety requirements.
- Monitor manpower deployment and work progress.
- Report performance issues to the Project Manager.
4. Documentation & Record Keeping
The Civil Engineer shall maintain/assist in maintaining:
- Daily Progress Reports (DPR)
- Site Measurement Sheets
- Work Inspection Requests (WIR)
- Material Inspection Reports

5. Required Technical Skills

6. Educational Qualification & Experience
Minimum Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Civil Engineering; or
- Diploma in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
Experience
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in civil construction/project execution.
- Experience in industrial, infrastructure, commercial or building construction projects will be preferred.
- Candidates with hands-on site execution experience will be preferred.

12. Authority & Responsibility
The Civil Engineer will have responsibility and authority, within the limits delegated by the Project Manager, to:
- Direct and supervise assigned site activities.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and workmen.
- Raise technical queries and site issues.
- Request required materials/resources.
- Recommend corrective actions for quality and execution issues.
- Stop/report work where significant quality or safety requirements are not being followed.
- Recommend improvements in construction methodology and productivity.

14. Overall Objective of the Position
To ensure safe, timely, cost-effective and quality execution of assigned civil construction works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, project schedules and contractual requirements, while maintaining effective coordination with all project stakeholders.
