HH Expert Consultancy is recruiting a full-time, remote Shadow Research Analyst to support country conditions research for expert witness reports used in legal proceedings, asylum and immigration matters, and human rights assessments. We are looking for careful researchers who write excellent English, check their sources and meet deadlines.

You do not need to be a MENA expert already. An interest in the region, its politics or its social and human rights issues is desirable. Training and ongoing feedback will be provided.

What you will do

- Research political developments, human rights, security and social conditions in Middle Eastern and North African countries.
- Find, assess and compare reliable primary and secondary sources.
- Draft clear, neutral research summaries with accurate citations for review by senior experts.
- Review documents and respond to research requests, including assignments with short deadlines.
- Check facts carefully, identify gaps or conflicting evidence, and revise your work in response to feedback.

What we are looking for

- A bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in political science, international relations, Middle East studies, human rights law or a closely related field.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong research, analytical writing and source-checking skills.
- Reliability, attention to detail and the ability to deliver polished work on time.
- Experience in legal research, academia, investigative journalism, NGOs, human rights work or a think tank is welcome.
- Prior MENA research experience is desirable but not essential.

Location and hours

This is a full-time, remote role. You can organise your research work flexibly, but you must be available for work-related communication during UK office hours, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm UK time.

Pay and start date





Indicative pay is ₹29,000–₹58,000 per month, depending on experience and suitability. Bonuses are also available for meeting agreed performance KPIs. We are looking for candidates who can start as soon as possible after selection.

Questions for your covering statement

Please use examples from work you personally carried out. Include links where the material or sources are public, but do not share confidential information.

- Describe one piece of political, legal, human rights or country research you completed. What question were you answering, what did you personally research or write, and what was the finished output? Tell us briefly about any interest or experience you have in MENA issues.
- Give one specific example of an important claim you checked while researching. What was the claim, which sources did you consult, how did you assess them, and what did you ultimately conclude or write?
- Describe one research or writing assignment with a short deadline. What was the deliverable, how much time did you have, what was your own responsibility, and was it delivered on time? How did you communicate your progress or raise any difficulties?

Please also state your location, earliest available start date and expected monthly pay. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to discuss their research experience and writing sample.

Pay: ₹29,000.00 - ₹58,000.00 per month
