Role Overview

Pharmsight is hiring a senior engineer to own the services and data flows behind data-intensive products. You will design systems that deliver trustworthy results to users, perform under real workloads, and can be operated and changed safely. You will work across the stack, with most of your time spent on backend architecture and implementation.

- Primary focus: Node.js, Python, and data services
- Working stack: Node.js, Python, React, SQL, NoSQL, Snowflake

Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement APIs and application services in Node.js and Python, choosing transparent service boundaries and contracts.
- Model operational data in SQL and NoSQL stores based on consistency, query, scale, and lifecycle requirements.
- Design application access to Snowflake for analytical workloads, with attention to query behavior, cost, permissions, data freshness, and the separation of operational and analytical concerns.
- Build reliable ingestion, transformation, and background processing flows where the product requires them. Address retries, idempotency, failure recovery, and traceability.
- Set standards for authentication, authorization, data validation, secrets handling, and auditability.
- Diagnose performance bottlenecks across application code, database queries, and external integrations.



Define useful service metrics and alerts.
- Deliver end-to-end features, including React changes where needed, and take responsibility for deployment and production behavior.
- Lead design discussions, review code, mentor engineers, and reduce operational or architectural debt.

Requirements

- Deep production experience with Node.js and Python, including API design, concurrency, background work, and service reliability.
- Strong SQL skills: data modeling, indexing, query analysis, and transaction design; practical experience with a NoSQL database and its trade-offs.
- Working knowledge of Snowflake for analytical data access, processing, or integration with application services.
- Ability to contribute confidently to a React and TypeScript application and deliver a feature across API and UI boundaries.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, observability, and incident response.
- Sound judgment on security, performance, maintainability, and cost, backed by examples from systems you have operated.
- Deep familiarity with asynchronous messaging, **API & Microservices Patterns ** and robust schema validation to secure data contracts between Python and Node.js services.
- Proven ability to build production pipelines leveraging LLMs and AI Integration & Evaluation Governance

AI expectations

You should know how to use AI coding tools without outsourcing engineering judgment. Experience integrating LLMs or other AI capabilities is valuable if you can discuss evaluation and failure handling in a production workflow.
