Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Database Developer with deep hands-on expertise in Microsoft SQL Server to design data models, build and optimise T-SQL, and deliver database-backed features for enterprise applications. The role is development-first: you will own schema design, stored procedure and query development, performance tuning, and data integration work, and will partner with the DBA/infrastructure function on production operations rather than owning them.

Data Modelling & Schema Design

- Translate business and product requirements into logical and physical data models
- Design normalised transactional schemas and denormalised reporting structures, and know when to use which
- Define keys, constraints, relationships, and data types that keep data correct by design
- Define indexing and partitioning strategy for new and evolving tables
- Plan and version schema changes so they can ship without breaking live systems

T-SQL Development

- Develop and maintain stored procedures, functions, views, and triggers
- Write set-based T-SQL for high-volume transactional and batch workloads
- Implement error handling, transaction management, and concurrency control (isolation levels, locking behaviour)
- Build reconciliation, validation, and data-quality routines
- Support reporting requirements through views, procedures, and reporting datasets

Performance Engineering

- Analyse and tune slow queries using actual execution plans
- Apply indexing, query rewriting, and statistics management to remove bottlenecks
- Diagnose blocking, deadlocks, tempdb pressure, and parameter sniffing issues
- Design for scale — batching, partition elimination, and archival strategies as data volumes grow
- Establish performance baselines and prevent regressions before release

Data Integration & Migration

- Build and maintain ETL/data movement using SSIS and/or Azure Data Factory
- Develop scripts for data migration, transformation, and validation
- Support movement of databases and workloads between on-premise SQL Server and Azure SQL





Azure SQL (Working Level)

- Develop against Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Understand feature and compatibility differences from on-premise SQL Server
- Use Query Performance Insight and Azure Monitor to investigate query performance
- Write code that is cost-aware in a consumption-based environment

Engineering Practice & Collaboration

- Work with product and application development teams through design, build, and release
- Manage database code in source control and deploy through CI/CD pipelines
- Define and enforce database coding standards; review peers' SQL
- Write and maintain documentation for data models and key procedures

Production Support (Supporting Role)

- Troubleshoot production data and performance issues, with root cause analysis and permanent fixes
- Work alongside the DBA/infrastructure team on backups, recovery, security, and HA/DR — familiarity expected, ownership not required

Required Skills

Must Have

- Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) and advanced T-SQL
- Stored procedures, functions, views, triggers, CTEs, window functions, dynamic SQL
- Query optimisation, execution plan analysis, indexing and partitioning
- Relational data modelling and normalisation; schema design from requirements
- Transaction handling, isolation levels, and concurrency troubleshooting
- Hands-on development experience against Azure SQL Database or Managed Instance
- Source control for database code (Git/TFS/Azure DevOps)

Positive to Have

- SSIS or Azure Data Factory
- Data warehousing and dimensional modelling
- CI/CD for database deployments (DACPAC, Flyway, Liquibase, or similar)
- Python or PowerShell scripting
- Power BI or SSRS
- Awareness of backup/recovery and Always On concepts
- Exposure to .NET application development
- NoSQL exposure

Qualification & Details
- Bachelor's/Master's in Computer Science, IT, or related field
- Experience: 4–7 years, predominantly in SQL Server development
- Employment Type: Full-Time | Work Mode: WFO | Location: Mumbai
- Notice Period: Immediate to 30 days preferred
