Job Title: Senior Front-End Engineer (React) UI Engineering

Role purpose: You’ll lead the design and delivery of high-quality user interfaces using React, partnering closely with product, UX, and backend/platform teams. While your core focus is UI development, you’ll also work effectively in a modern cloud-native environment that includes microservices and Kubernetes, and you’ll collaborate with teams using PostgreSQL and MongoDB.

Key responsibilities

- Own UI delivery end-to-end: build, test, and ship responsive, accessible, high-performance web interfaces using React.
- Lead requirements handling: run requirement clarification sessions, challenge assumptions, define acceptance criteria, and translate needs into technical tasks and delivery plans.
- Architect front-end solutions: define UI architecture, component strategy, state management, routing, and front-end integration patterns.
- Integrate with microservices: consume REST/GraphQL APIs, handle authentication/authorisation flows, and design resilient UI behaviour (error states, retries, fallbacks).
- Work in a Kubernetes-based environment: collaborate with DevOps/platform teams to support containerised deployments, configuration, and environment troubleshooting (without needing to be a full-time SRE).
- Ensure engineering excellence: write clean, maintainable code; enforce standards; lead code reviews; coach engineers on best practices.
- Testing & quality: implement unit/integration/UI tests; ensure performance, security, and accessibility (WCAG) considerations are built in.
- UI collaboration: partner with UX/UI designers to implement design systems, reusable components, and consistent interaction patterns.
- Production support: monitor and troubleshoot UI issues, contribute to incident resolution,



and drive root-cause fixes.

Required skills & experience

- Strong experience delivering all UI-related development for contemporary web applications.
- Expert-level React (hooks, component design, state management patterns).
- Strong JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML5, CSS3 (responsive design).
- Proven experience handling requirements in a senior capacity: breaking down work, clarifying ambiguity, and aligning stakeholders.
- Experience integrating front ends with microservices (API contracts, versioning considerations, error handling).
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerised delivery concepts (deployments, pods, config maps/secrets—at least to collaborate effectively).
- Familiarity with data concepts and how UIs interact with services backed by PostgreSQL and MongoDB (you don’t need to be a DBA, but you should understand implications for UI/API behaviour).
- Experience with Git-based workflows, CI/CD, and code review practices.

Nice to have

- Design system experience (Storybook, component libraries).
- Performance optimisation (bundle splitting, caching strategies, web vitals).
- Security awareness (OWASP basics, secure auth token handling).
- Observability exposure (logging/monitoring tools, frontend telemetry).
