A Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) System Designer creates and optimizes hardware and software architectures that use quantum mechanics to generate ultra- secure, un-hackable encryption keys.
Role Summary
This role bridges theoretical quantum physics and real-world engineering constraints to build secure communication channels. You will design end-to-end QKD setups, manage optical or free-space transmission, and integrate quantum hardware with standard telecom networks.
Key Responsibilities
System Architecture: Design the physical-layer and optical layouts for QKD modules using protocols like BB84 or E91.
Hardware Integration: Work with single-photon sources, detectors, and photonic integrated circuits (PICs).
Control Systems: Build real-time control, timing, and processing logic using FPGAs Verilog/VHDL), microcontrollers, or embedded C/C++.
Network Integration:
Connect QKD-generated keys with classical encryption systems and telecom infrastructure (fiber-optic or free-space/satellite links).
Testing and Validation: Test system performance under real-world noise, transmission losses, and environmental stressors.
Security Evaluation: Perform implementation-security analysis and ensure compliance with industry standards and certifications.
Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Degree in Physics, Quantum Information, Electrical Engineering, Optics, or Computer Science (Master's or PhD preferred).
Technical Skills: Experience with optical communications, laser control, and mixed-signal electronics.
Programming: Proficiency in Python, C/C++, or hardware description languages like Verilog/VHDL.
Domain Knowledge: Understanding of quantum cryptography, post-quantum security concepts, and fiber/free-space channel limitations.
