False Signal Studios

False Signal Studio is a game development studio focused on creating immersive, atmospheric, and psychologically driven games.
We're building original gaming experiences with a solid emphasis on storytelling, tension, atmosphere, player immersion, and polished gameplay. Our goal is to build games that stay with players long after they finish playing.
We're looking for a highly motivated Lead Unity Developer who wants to take ownership of the technical direction of our games and grow alongside the studio.
Role Overview
We're looking for a Lead Unity Developer to lead the technical development of our upcoming games in Unity.
You will be responsible for translating game design concepts into stable, scalable, and polished gameplay systems while working closely with the Game Director, designers, artists, and other development team members.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You won't simply manage developers—you'll actively write code, build systems, solve technical problems, review implementations, and establish development standards.
The ideal candidate is someone who combines robust Unity/C# development skills with leadership, problem-solving, and a genuine passion for game development.
Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
- Lead the technical development of games using Unity and C#.
- Design and implement scalable gameplay and game systems.
- Establish coding standards, development workflows, and technical best practices.
- Review code and maintain overall code quality.
- Identify technical risks and develop practical solutions.
- Make architectural decisions based on project requirements and scope.
Gameplay Development
- Build and maintain core gameplay systems and mechanics.
- Implement player movement, interaction, environments, inventory, puzzles, AI, triggers, save/load systems, and other gameplay features as required.
- Integrate animations, audio, VFX, UI, and other game systems into gameplay.
- Develop systems that support atmospheric and narrative-driven gameplay.
- Optimize gameplay systems for performance, stability, and responsiveness.
Team Leadership
- Guide and mentor Unity developers and junior programmers.
- Break technical requirements into manageable development tasks.
- Review work, provide technical feedback, and maintain development quality.
- Collaborate with game designers and artists to turn creative concepts into playable experiences.
- Help establish realistic technical milestones and development priorities.
Production & Problem Solving
- Work closely with the Game Director to plan and execute development milestones.
- Estimate development effort and identify potential bottlenecks.
- Debug and resolve critical technical issues.
- Maintain project stability throughout development.
- Participate in playtesting and use feedback to improve gameplay systems.
- Help ensure projects remain within technical, performance, and production constraints.
Requirements
- 3 years of professional Unity development experience or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- Strong proficiency in Unity and C#.
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and software architecture.
- Experience developing and shipping games or substantial playable projects.
- Strong understanding of Unity's gameplay systems and development workflow.
- Experience with Git or another version-control system.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving abilities.
- Understanding of game optimization and performance profiling.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical decisions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to lead developers while remaining hands-on with development.
Good to Have
- Experience working on horror, psychological horror, thriller, narrative, or atmospheric games.
- Experience with Unity's URP or HDRP.
- Experience implementing AI systems and enemy behaviors.
- Experience with animation systems and Animator.
- Experience with Unity's UI systems.
- Experience with addressable assets and asset management.
- Experience with optimization and profiling tools.
- Experience integrating third-party Unity assets and plugins.
- Familiarity with FMOD, Wwise, or other game-audio middleware.
- Experience with Steam or PC game deployment.
- Experience working with small indie game-development teams.
- Experience taking a game from prototype to release.
What We Look For
We're looking for someone who:
- Thinks like an engineer and a game developer.
- Takes ownership instead of waiting for instructions.
- Can turn ambiguous ideas into practical technical solutions.
- Understands that good game development requires balancing quality, scope, time, and budget.
- Is comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment.
- Can mentor others without becoming disconnected from hands-on development.
- Cares about the small details that make gameplay feel polished.
- Is genuinely passionate about creating memorable gaming experiences.
What We Offer
- Opportunity to take a lead technical role in an emerging game studio.
- Direct collaboration with company leadership and the creative team.
- Significant ownership over the technical direction of our games.
- Opportunity to build and ship original IP.
- Fast learning and career growth within a growing gaming company.
- Creative and collaborative work environment.
- Hands-on experience across gameplay programming, systems development, optimization, and game production.
