Internal Auditor – Retail Industry (Chartered Accountant)

Position Overview The Internal Auditor will be responsible for evaluating and strengthening financial, operational, and compliance controls across all retail stores. The role ensures accuracy of financial reporting, minimises revenue leakage, improves stock integrity, and enforces company policies. The auditor will work closely with store managers, finance, and operations to drive accountability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial & Operational Audits

Conduct periodic audits of store cashups, banking, petty cash, and daily reconciliations. Verify compliance with POS procedures, cash handling, voids, refunds, discounts, and promotions.

Review CashPlus, bill payments, and third‑party transactions to detect irregularities.

Audit expense claims, supplier invoices, GRVs, and credit notes.

1. Stock & Inventory Controls

Perform cycle counts, spot checks, and full stock audits across departments. Analyse shrinkage trends, wastage, damages, and stock variances.

Evaluate receiving processes, stock rotation (FIFO), and storage practices.

Ensure compliance with stock movement documentation and system postings.

1. Compliance & Risk Management

Assess adherence to company SOPs, HR policies, and operational standards. Identify control gaps and recommend corrective actions.

Investigate fraud, theft, and misconduct cases in coordination with HR and management.

Ensure stores comply with statutory and regulatory requirements.





1. Reporting & Documentation

Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, risks, and actionable recommendations. Present audit outcomes to senior management and follow up on implementation.

Maintain audit schedules, working papers, and evidence files.

1. Process Improvement & Advisory

Recommend improvements to strengthen internal controls and reduce losses. Support digital transformation initiatives (automation, dashboards, system controls).

Train store teams on compliance, documentation, and best practices.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent skilled qualification.

Minimum 3–5 years experience in auditing, preferably in retail or FMCG.

Technical Skills

Strong knowledge of accounting standards and audit methodologies.

Experience with POS systems, inventory management systems, and ERP platforms.

Proficiency in Excel, data analysis, and audit tools.

Ability to work independently and travel to multiple store locations.
