Role & Responsibilities

- Manage and develop the EYP library setting for young learners, creating a welcoming, engaging, and age-appropriate space for reading and exploration.
- Introduce children to a wide range of age-appropriate picture books, storybooks, poetry, rhymes, and visual literacy resources.
- Conduct interactive storytelling, read-aloud sessions, book discussions, rhymes, and other engaging literacy activities.
- Develop children’s early literacy skills, vocabulary, listening, comprehension, communication, and love for reading.
- Encourage children to explore books independently and develop positive reading habits from an early age.
- Use storytelling, books, puppets, props, role-play, and creative activities to make library experiences engaging and meaningful.
- Create opportunities for children to choose books based on their interests, encouraging agency, curiosity, and independent exploration.
- Support inquiry-based and play-based learning through carefully selected books and library resources.
- Collaborate with EYP teachers to connect library experiences with classroom learning, Units of Inquiry, themes, and student interests.
- Recommend books and resources that support children’s social-emotional development, cultural awareness, creativity, imagination, and understanding of the world.
- Organise book-related activities, reading challenges, storytelling events, author interactions, book celebrations, and literacy-focused activities.
- Develop themed book displays and learning corners that encourage children to explore, ask questions, and engage with different ideas.

Library Management & Resources

- Maintain an organised and child-friendly collection of books and learning resources suitable for different age groups and reading levels.
- Manage book cataloguing, classification, circulation, shelving, and regular inventory of library resources.
- Monitor the condition of books and coordinate repairs, replacements, and acquisition of new resources.
- Identify and recommend new books and resources based on curriculum requirements, student interests, and emerging learning needs.
- Maintain accurate records of library resources, borrowing, returns,



and inventory.
- Ensure the library remains safe, accessible, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate for young learners.
- Promote responsible handling and care of books and library resources among children.

IB & Inquiry-Based Learning

- Support the principles of the IB PYP Early Years programme through play-based, inquiry-led, and child-centred library experiences.
- Support children in developing curiosity, imagination, communication, and confidence through literature and inquiry.
- Select books and resources that connect with transdisciplinary themes and real-world contexts.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate literature and storytelling into transdisciplinary learning experiences.
- Encourage children to ask questions, make connections, express ideas, and reflect through stories and discussions.
- Contribute to developing an environment that supports student voice, choice, and ownership of learning.
- Participate in curriculum planning, professional development, school events, and academic initiatives.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to library resources, programmes, activities, and student engagement.

Requirements

Preferred Candidate Profile

- Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science, Education, English, Literature, Early Childhood Education, or a relevant discipline.
- Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Library & Information Science will be an advantage.
- B.Ed./Early Childhood Education qualification will be preferred.
- 3–5+ years of relevant experience working in a school library, early years setting, preschool, or educational environment.
- Experience working with children aged 3–6 years will be highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of children’s literature, picture books, storytelling, rhymes, and early literacy development.




- Excellent storytelling, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage young children through interactive, creative, and play-based activities.
- Positive understanding of early childhood development and age-appropriate learning practices.
- Understanding of IB PYP Early Years, inquiry-based learning, or play-based learning will be an advantage.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with EYP teachers and contribute to trans disciplinary learning.
- Strong organisational and library management skills.
- Creative, patient, enthusiastic, and child-friendly approach to working with young learners.
- Candidates with experience in IB/PYP schools or international school environments will be preferred.
- Candidates with relevant IB/PYP training or professional development will be an advantage.
