Job Title
VP – Sourcing and Operations
Blackstone's Global Procurement team is looking for a motivated, capable professional with strong communication skills and a hands-on approach to reviewing, negotiating, and closing market data agreements, subscription order forms, data license schedules, and statements of work.
As a VP on the Market Data Sourcing and Operations team, you will hold commercial and operational responsibility for a portfolio of information services vendors from first conversation through renewal. The work involves close partnership with investment teams, Research, Technology, and Legal & Compliance to manage spending and make sure license entitlements match how the business uses the data. Vendors in the portfolio cover terminals and desktop platforms, fundamental and pricing data, credit ratings and research, private markets and alternative data, index and benchmark licenses, along with real-time and non-display data feeds.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Market Data Sourcing and Operations team and investment team leads to understanding requirements, prioritization, and timing, along with operational and functional expectations for data products and services. Negotiate pricing terms and review and negotiate vendor agreements, master data license agreements, order forms, and statements of work.
- Own a defined vendor portfolio end to end, from demand intake and new requests through upgrades and downgrades, renewal strategy, negotiation, and post-execution administration, ensuring commercial and operational workstreams remain aligned.
- Suggest changes and propose alternative language to reach mutually acceptable terms, with particular focus on permitted use and user definitions, entity and affiliate coverage, derived data rights, redistribution, non-display usage, internal versus external distribution, audit rights, and renewal and termination mechanics.
- Manage the sourcing queue, expected delivery dates, and priorities across outstanding contracts, agreements, and orders, including a high volume of annual renewals concentrated at year-end.
- Manage priorities, track tasks, and follow up with vendors and other stakeholders.
- Lead difficult negotiations independently, recommending alternative approaches and the way forward, including sole-source and highly concentrated data providers where competitive leverage is limited.
- Use inventory, entitlement, and usage data to identify rationalization, consolidation, downgrading, and de-provisioning opportunities ahead of renewal, and drive those savings initiatives to completion.
- Support responses to vendor license reviews/audits and help structure agreements to reduce audit and compliance exposure.
- Develop effective vendor relationships that endure beyond contract execution, including structured business reviews and clear executive escalation paths.
- Analyze proposals and develop reports using metrics. Benchmark unit pricing across various pricing models, and present the information in clear, easy-to-follow tables and spreadsheets.
- Contribute to process improvement across the team's sourcing and operations workflows, and provide guidance and informal mentorship to junior team members.
- Prepare and present renewal recommendations, savings results, and portfolio-level reporting to senior stakeholders within Procurement and the business.
Qualifications Blackstone seeks to hire individuals who work well in a team-driven working group, are highly motivated, intelligent, have sound judgment and have demonstrated excellence in prior endeavors.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or Business Administration; an MBA would be a plus.
- 10+ years of strategic sourcing, procurement, or vendor management experience, including demonstrated success independently leading negotiations with large, sophisticated suppliers. Experience in market data, financial information services, or technology procurement is preferred.
- Understanding of how software or data vendors structure commercial and pricing models. Familiarity with the market data vendor landscape is a plus, as is experience with GDPR, DPAs, DPIAs, and data privacy and licensing considerations for market data.
- Demonstrated experience operating within a combined sourcing and operations model, coordinating closely with entitlement/inventory administrators and business stakeholders, and influencing senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, with excellent oral and written communication skills, a commitment to maintaining effective internal and external relationships, and a solid focus on customer service.
- Comfort working with complex commercial and licensing terms and readiness to quickly become familiar with market data documentation.
This includes master data license agreements; subscription and terminal agreements; exchange and vendor-of-record declarations and usage-reporting obligations; index and benchmark licenses; real-time and non-display data-feed agreements; API and redistribution terms; and evaluation and proof-of-concept agreements.
- Strong project management skills, with experience running multiple concurrent workstreams and competing stakeholder priorities against firm deadlines. Comfort building schedules, tracking dependencies, escalating risks early, and reporting status clearly, often with incomplete information.
- Experience reviewing and editing scopes of work, price sheets, user schedules, etc.
- Comfortable with electronic procurement and sourcing tools such as Coupa, along with standard business software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office 365.
