About the Role

To support our continued growth, we are hiring a CAD Drafter / OSP & Utility Design Engineer to join our engineering team, based in Kolkata or working remotely during India business hours as part of our permits team.

The role focuses primarily on overhead plan views, CAD drafting, utility and permit drawings, and engineering plan production. Depending on experience, the role may expand into OSP/utility design, base mapping, as-built drawings, constructability reviews, permit revisions, and broader civil engineering design responsibilities.

You will also maintain accurate progress records for assigned work and coordinate closely—primarily through clear written handoffs—with our Irvine, CA-based design and project management teams.

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Production

- Provide CAD drafting support to a technical engineering team under general supervision, reporting to the Project Manager or department head.
- Prepare preliminary and final engineering drawings, plans, maps, permit drawings, and exhibits.
- Transform initial rough designs, field information, and design markups into working CAD documents.
- Produce finished drawings and detailed layouts from preliminary design sketches and instructions provided by design staff.
- Review drawings for adherence to established company, client, engineering, and jurisdictional standards.
- Convert as-built field markups, engineering revisions, and redlines into accurate CAD drawings.
- Support preparation of base maps and utility mapping, including interpretation of available utility information.
- Where applicable, support OSP/FTTH/FTTx and dry-utility plan preparation,



including route layouts and associated engineering documentation.

Permitting, Utility Coordination & Quality

- Address plan-check comments, including plan-view comments, text edits, attribute edits, agency redlines, and engineering revisions.
- Support preparation and revision of City, County, DOT, ROW, and utility permit drawings/packages where applicable.
- Update drawings in accordance with jurisdictional and client requirements.
- Assist with utility conflict identification, existing-condition verification, and route/constructability reviews.
- Perform drawing checks and QA/QC to maintain consistency and compliance with client, municipal, construction, and company standards.
- Manipulate existing information to prepare composite exhibits and plans.
- Prepare presentation-type exhibits using proposed information from consultants or markups from design staff.

Coordination & Records

- Become proficient with the company's CAD organisational systems, templates, workflows, and drafting standards.
- Coordinate clearly with US-based engineering, design, and project management teams regarding revisions, comments, and deliverables.
- Manage multiple assigned drawings/projects while meeting agreed delivery schedules.
- Keep the company system of record updated on progress against assigned workload.
- Maintain organised drawing files, permit documentation, markups, and revision records.
- Perform other miscellaneous project duties as required, including research and construction-document scans/copies.

Requirements

- 2–4 years of hands-on AutoCAD experience.
- Proven experience as a CAD Drafter, Design Engineer, OSP Designer, or in a similar drafting/design role.
- Knowledge of architectural, structural, civil, utility, telecom, or infrastructure working drawings.
- Experience converting as-built field markups, redlines, or engineering comments into CAD drawings.
- Ability to prepare drawings according to company and/or client drafting standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, utility information, design markups, and technical instructions.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform basic drawing QA/QC.
- Strong written and oral communication skills,



particularly written communication for coordination with US-based teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
- Ability to multitask, manage assigned workloads, and work effectively across global and cross-functional teams.

Preferred Skills

- OSP / FTTH / FTTx design and drafting.
- Telecom or utility permitting.
- City, County, DOT, ROW, or utility permit drawings and packages.
- Dry utilities, Caltrans, railroad agencies, or similar infrastructure environments.
- Base mapping and utility mapping, including Gas, Water, Sewer, Storm Drain, ROW, PUE, EOP, BOC, or similar information.
- Utility conflict analysis and resolution support.
- Constructability or route-feasibility reviews.
- Preparation of as-built drawings, permit drawings, and engineering revisions.
- Processing agency/client redlines and permit comments.
- Drawing QA/QC and compliance with municipal, client, or construction standards.
- Familiarity with Civil 3D, QGIS, ArcGIS, 3GIS, or similar GIS/design tools.
- AutoLISP or other AutoCAD automation experience would be an advantage.
- Familiarity with California state, municipal, safety, permitting, or structural requirements.
- Prior experience supporting US-based civil engineering, telecom, fiber, or utility clients remotely.

Experience

2–4 years of hands-on AutoCAD drafting/design experience, ideally within civil engineering, utilities, telecom/OSP, infrastructure, or permitting.

Candidates with strong relevant US permitting, OSP, utility, or CAD production experience may be considered even where their exact job title differs.

Education

Bachelor's degree, diploma, or education/training equivalent to high school education plus two years of technical or trade-school training preferred.

Relevant disciplines may include Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Drafting/Design, or other related technical fields.
