Role Description:

UAV Designer — Modelling, Simulation & Autopilot

Hyderabad, Telangana | Fixed-Wing UAV Program | Full-Time | Defence, Aerospace & EW Electronics

Why Join Us

- Work on real, mission-critical hardware for defence and aerospace platforms — not simulations or academic exercises
- Direct exposure to founders on every major design call — this is not a siloed role several layers removed from decisions
- A genuine hand in a defence-relevant program from an early stage, including the IP and documentation that comes out of it
- We're a fast-growing company — compensation grows quickly with demonstrated performance, not just tenure

Compensation

As a startup, we're not able to match big-company salaries right now — but we're growing fast, and early team members get real ownership over what they build, faster growth in responsibility, and compensation that scales quickly with performance rather than waiting on annual cycles.

This is a hands-on flight-dynamics and autopilot role, not a general software or coding role. You should be someone who has actually built 6-DOF dynamics models and worked on real autopilot/GNC logic

— not just studied aerodynamics or written general-purpose code. If your background is in software development, computer science, or IT with no UAV, aircraft, or flight-dynamics project work, please do not apply. This posting is exclusively for candidates with an Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering background and real UAV/aircraft-relevant project experience.

The Role

We're after someone who can sit across modelling & simulation, autopilot/GNC, and the aerodynamics-and-structures side of a fixed-wing airframe — not necessarily expert in all three on day one, but able to move between them without needing a translator. You'll build and maintain the 6-DOF dynamics model, help shape the autopilot logic that flies on it, and weigh in on airframe decisions (wing loading, control surface sizing, launch loads) that the model and the autopilot both depend on getting right.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering — aerospace is the closer fit, but a mechanical background with real aircraft or UAV project work is welcome (CGPA 7.5+ or equivalent — applications below this will not be considered)
- 2–5 years working on UAV or aircraft flight dynamics, autopilot/GNC, or aerodynamics — industry, a research lab, or a genuinely serious student UAV/rocketry project all count

What You'll Be Doing

- Building and maintaining 6-DOF flight dynamics models and using them to drive hardware/software-in-the-loop (HIL/SIL) testing before anything goes near a real airframe

- Working on autopilot and guidance logic — L1/NLGL-style guidance, PID and lead-compensator loops, EKF-based state estimation — and tuning it against both simulation and flight-test data
- Running aerodynamic analysis (stability derivatives, trim, control-surface sizing) so the airframe can actually fly the mission it's meant to
- Sanity-checking structural and launch-load questions — canister-launch acceleration, wing-fold mechanisms, airframe weight budget
- Setting up sensor simulation (IMU, GNSS, baro, compass) for OBC-in-the-loop testing of the flight controller
- Debugging the gap between "works in simulation" and "works on the bench"
- Writing up trajectory, launch-angle, and performance analysis clearly for the team and future reviewers

You Must Have Real Comfort With

- Flight dynamics modelling (MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or equivalent) — able to build a 6-DOF model from equations of motion, not just run someone else's
- Autopilot fundamentals: guidance laws, PID/compensator tuning, and at least a conceptual grip on state estimation (EKF or similar)
- Aerodynamics background sufficient to reason about stability, trim, and control-surface authority
- Basic structural/load reasoning and airframe structural design fundamentals — load paths, material selection, basic sizing

Nice to Have

- Hands-on HIL/SIL experience, canister- or rail-launched airframe experience, familiarity with ArduPilot/PX4/custom FCS at code level, actuator control exposure, or a fly-off/competition track record (SAE Aero, DBF, or similar)

To Apply

Send your resume to [email protected] with subject line "Application for – UAV Designer". In your email body, mention your full name, Total years of experience, Current CTC, Expected CTC, along with one flight-dynamics, autopilot, or aerodynamics project you've personally worked on end-to-end and what platform it was for.
