Platforms Engineer I

About the Role:

As a Platform Engineer within the Data Platforms SRE unit, you will play a key role in shaping and strengthening the engineering foundations behind Swiss Re's structured and unstructured data platforms, including Palantir Foundry and DocuSign. This is a highly impactful role at the intersection of platform engineering, DevOps, software development, and data architecture. You will help design and build scalable, resilient solutions that enable teams across Swiss Re to develop, deploy, and operate data-driven applications with confidence. You will combine hands-on engineering with architectural thinking, driving automation, reliability, security, and engineering excellence across our platforms. In your day-to-day work, you will design and implement automated, reliable, and maintainable software and data-transformation delivery processes, while continuously improving how these solutions are operated in production.

Key Responsibilities:

- Spearhead the design and development of complex data and software engineering solutions, establishing best practices while simplifying implementation choices.
- Drive the continuous and incremental evolution of existing solutions, improving their scalability, reliability, maintainability, and developer & customer experience.
- Advance the prescriptive capabilities of our platforms in line with industry developments in data analytics, access modelling, security, and engineering standards.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders across the business to identify and prioritise high-value opportunities, translating business needs into scalable and resilient data solutions,



integrations, and analytics applications
- Review solution designs and implementations, ensuring alignment with architectural principles, engineering standards, security requirements, and internal guidelines
- Design, implement, and continuously enhance CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices, enabling automated, dependable, and repeatable build, deployment, and operational processes.

About You:

- Extensive experience in data engineering and Java-based software engineering, including hands-on solution design and architecture.
- Deep technical expertise in Java 8+, SQL, OpenAPI, and RESTful API design experience with Palantir Foundry, Python, and Apache Spark would be a robust advantage
- Strong experience with modern DevOps practices and tooling, including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, Kubernetes, CloudInit, deployment automation, and major cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted software engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Codex, combined with a solid understanding of system-design concepts including application and platform security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and secure-by-design principles
- Strong strategic thinking,



problem-solving skills and business English proficiency, with demonstrated experience leading or steering complex technical initiatives in a multinational and cross-functional environment
- An degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred and well as applicants with strong track of large open source projects contributions.

- Experience working in regulated environments with rigorous change-management and compliance requirements, or within the insurance or financial-services sectors, would be an advantage
