Job Purpose:

Lead the Hot Rolling Mill Operations & Roll Shop section to meet safety, quality and output targets. Optimize mill availability, reduce downtime and manage roll lifecycle costs. Responsible for maximizing mill yield, optimizing roll life cycles and ensuring the precision of Roll Shop CNC Grinders and Roll Assemblies to maintain zero-defect rolling operations.

Key Responsibilities:

- Operations Management
- Manage daily production schedules for Hot rolling mill operations.
- Ensure output meets targets for volume, yield and quality.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) like fuel rate, delay time, and rolling efficiency.
- Implement continuous improvement projects using lean and six-sigma methods.

- Roll Shop Management
- Oversee roll grinding, inspection, and maintenance processes.
- Optimize roll inventory, allocation and lifecycle performance.
- Troubleshoot roll defects issues.
- Coordinate with procurement team for Roll Shop the metallurgy team on roll material selection and hardness specifications.
- Lead complete Roll Shop operations, including roll receiving, identification, inspection, grinding, balancing, storage, assembly and issue to the mill.
- Develop roll management strategies to maximize:
- Roll life & performance

- Grinding efficiency

- Campaign length

- Surface quality
- Roll availability

o Coordination with procurement team to establish and maintain optimum roll inventory and availability. o Monitor roll defects such as cracks, fire cracks, spalling, bruising, chattering, excessive wear and surface deterioration.

o Analyze roll consumption and develop measures to reduce roll cost per tonne.

o Ensure accurate roll shop history records, grinding records, campaign records and traceability.

o Coordinate with roll manufacturers and suppliers on roll performance, quality and technical issues.

- Safety & Environmental Management

o Ensure strict compliance with plant EHS policies, statutory requirements and safe operating procedures. o Establish a strong safety culture across Mill and Roll Shop operations.

o Conduct safety audits, risk assessments and incident investigations.

o Ensure effective implementation of permit-to-work, LOTO and other critical safety systems.

o Drive reduction of unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses and workplace incidents.

- Cost & Resource Management
- Prepare and control departmental operating budgets.

- Optimize manpower deployment and shift structures.
- Evaluate CAPEX proposals based on operational benefit, ROI and lifecycle cost.

Qualifications & Experience:

- Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical / metallurgical / production engineering or equivalent.




- Postgraduate qualification in Operations, Manufacturing, Business Management or an equivalent discipline will be an advantage.

- Experience
- Typically, 15–20+ years of experience in steel manufacturing, preferably with significant exposure to Hot Rolling Mill operations and Roll Shop management.
- Strong experience in a large-scale integrated steel plant or modern rolling mill environment.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and shift-based manufacturing operations.
- Demonstrated experience in production optimization, quality improvement, reliability and cost reduction.
