Purchase Executive – Copper Scrap / Metal Scrap Procurement

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Purchase Executive with hands-on experience in copper scrap procurement and knowledge of the local scrap market.

The candidate will be responsible for identifying suppliers, visiting scrap yards and industrial sources, inspecting copper scrap, negotiating prices, and coordinating purchases and material movement.

This is a field-oriented procurement role, and practical knowledge of copper scrap is more important than purely office-based purchase experience.

Key Responsibilities

- Source and procure different grades of copper scrap from dealers, scrap yards, industries, dismantlers and other suppliers.
- Develop and maintain a robust network of copper scrap suppliers.
- Visit suppliers and scrap yards for physical inspection of material.
- Identify and differentiate copper scrap grades such as:
- Millberry / Bare Bright Copper
- Berry
- Birch / Cliff
- Candy
- Armature / Motor Copper
- Enamelled Copper Wire
- Tin-coated Copper Wire
- Mixed Copper Scrap
- Copper Cable Scrap
- Brass/Copper mixed materials
- Other non-ferrous copper-bearing scrap
- Assess copper content, contamination, insulation, oxidation, moisture and other impurities during physical inspection.
- Estimate expected recovery/yield wherever applicable.
- Compare supplier prices with prevailing market prices and negotiate purchase prices.
- Collect material samples and coordinate quality checks when required.
- Prepare purchase details including quantity, grade, rate, supplier, transport and payment terms.
- Coordinate with suppliers, transporters, warehouse and accounts team for timely material movement and payment.
- Monitor copper scrap market prices and supplier quotations.




- Identify new sources and continuously expand the supplier base.
- Maintain proper records of suppliers, purchases, rates and material quality.
- Support the company in developing a reliable and consistent copper scrap procurement network.

Candidate RequirementsMust Have
- 2–5 years of practical experience in copper scrap / non-ferrous metal scrap procurement.
- Good knowledge of different copper scrap grades and physical identification.
- Experience in negotiating scrap purchase prices.
- Existing contacts with copper scrap dealers, scrap yards, industries or dismantlers will be an advantage.
- Willingness to travel within Chennai and surrounding industrial areas for supplier visits.
- Ability to independently inspect material and make preliminary purchase decisions.
- Good communication and negotiation skills.
- Basic knowledge of weight, quantity, recovery and scrap costing.
- Two-wheeler and valid driving licence preferred.

Important

Candidates with only general purchase/procurement experience but without practical copper scrap knowledge are not preferred.

The candidate should be comfortable going to the market, visiting scrap yards, physically inspecting material and negotiating with suppliers.
