We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer – DevOps / Platform Engineering to shape how our AWS-based SaaS products are built, deployed, and operated.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer with strong software development experience and deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, automation, observability, and application modernization .
You will work closely with Application Engineering, Platform, Product, and Security teams to modernize applications, improve engineering productivity, strengthen reliability and security, and establish scalable platform engineering practices.
Key Responsibilities
DevOps & Platform Engineering
- Define DevOps and Platform Engineering standards, reference architectures, delivery patterns, and operational practices.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives focused on delivery velocity, reliability, security, scalability, and maintainability.
- Drive technical decisions across teams and lead complex modernization initiatives.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical hiring and interviews.
Application Modernization
- Apply strong software engineering experience to understand application architecture, dependencies, build systems, and runtime behavior.
- Reduce unnecessary coupling between services, shared libraries, components, and deployment units.
- Enable independent build, test, versioning, release, and deployment of application components.
- Improve application configuration, secrets management, health checks, logging, metrics, and graceful startup/shutdown.
- Build engineering automation and tools using Python, Go, Groovy, or Shell .
CI/CD & Developer Experience
- Design and operate CI/CD platforms using GitHub Actions and Jenkins .
- Build reusable pipeline templates, workflows, and shared components using pipeline-as-code.
- Implement automated build, testing, code quality, security scanning, artifact management, and deployment workflows.
- Modernize existing Jenkins pipelines and integrate them with GitHub Actions where appropriate.
- Implement secure CI/CD practices using least-privilege access, federated identity, and short-lived credentials.
- Improve developer experience through self-service workflows, standardized templates, documentation, and actionable pipeline feedback.
AWS, Kubernetes & Infrastructure as Code
- Architect and operate AWS environments using services including EKS, ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, IAM, ACM, ALB, Lambda, and VPC .
- Design and operate multi-account AWS architectures covering networking, routing, VPN, DNS, certificates, cross-account access, and security controls.
- Build reusable infrastructure using Terraform and CloudFormation where appropriate.
- Establish best practices around Terraform modules, state management, workplace configuration, testing, change management, and drift detection.
- Work extensively with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, and GitOps .
AI-Augmented Engineering & Operations
- Drive adoption of AI coding assistants and engineering agents across platform engineering.
- Use AI to accelerate Terraform, CI/CD, Helm, automation, code review, testing, and incident triage while maintaining appropriate engineering guardrails.
- Build AI-assisted capabilities into CI/CD, including PR review, build failure analysis, flaky-test detection, and automated failure summaries.
- Enable platforms to securely support AI workloads, including Amazon Bedrock, GPU/inference workloads on EKS, model versioning, evaluation pipelines, and AI cost visibility .
- Establish governance for AI agents operating on infrastructure, including least-privilege access, audit trails, human approval,
and protection against data leakage and prompt injection.
- Measure AI adoption through engineering and reliability metrics such as DORA metrics .
What You Bring
- 12+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Software Engineering, or related disciplines.
- Strong hands-on software development background with the ability to work across application code, architecture, build systems, and runtime environments.
- Deep expertise in AWS and cloud-native architectures.
- Strong hands-on experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code .
- Extensive experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, CI/CD, pipeline automation, and developer platforms .
- Strong experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, GitOps, automated testing, artifact management, and deployment strategies .
- Strong programming/automation skills in Python, Go, Groovy, or Shell .
- Solid understanding of AWS networking, VPC, routing, load balancing, DNS, VPN, IAM, TLS, and multi-account architectures .
- Experience with observability and incident-management platforms such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Alertmanager, or Opsgenie .
- Demonstrated experience in application modernization, dependency reduction, and enabling independent deployment architectures .
- Strong communication, technical leadership, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants or AI agents in engineering workflows.
- Strong understanding of the security and operational risks associated with AI-enabled engineering and cloud environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience deploying or operating AI/LLM-powered services on AWS .
- Experience building AI-driven automation for CI/CD, platform engineering, or incident response .
- B.E., B.Tech., M.Tech., MCA, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
