Role Description The Owner role is a full-time, on-site position based in West Bengal, India, responsible for overseeing strategic, operational, and administrative aspects associated with IIT Kanpur’s initiatives in the region. The individual in this role will guide long-term planning, establish priorities, and ensure that activities align with the Institute’s mission of excellence in research, education, and social impact. Day-to-day tasks may include coordinating with academic and administrative leadership, managing resources and budgets, reviewing project progress, and ensuring compliance with institutional policies and local regulations.

The role also involves building partnerships with industry, government, and community stakeholders, promoting the Institute’s values,



and supporting an inclusive, high-performance environment for staff and collaborators.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience in organizational leadership, strategic planning, and governance in academic, research, or technology-focused institutions.

- Strong financial and operational management skills, including budgeting, resource allocation, and performance monitoring.

- Ability to build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal teams, external organizations, and community stakeholders.

- Excellent communication, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with the capacity to represent the institution in a variety of formal and informal settings.

- Proven commitment to ethical conduct, social responsibility, and environmental sustainability in professional practice.

- Master’s or doctoral degree in engineering, science, management, or a related field; significant leadership experience in higher education or research organizations is highly beneficial.

- Familiarity with the Indian higher education and research ecosystem, including regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms, is an advantage.

- Ability to work on-site in West Bengal, India, and travel as needed for institutional engagements.
