An HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) engineer designs, develops, and oversees systems that control indoor temperature, air quality, and ventilation.
An HVAC Design Engineer is responsible for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems from conceptual design through execution. In large-scale engineering and construction projects, two critical components of their role are managing the Design Basis Report (DBR) and navigating the Tendering Process.
Design and Planning
- Calculate loads: Compute heating and cooling needs based on building size, climate, and occupancy.
- Create blueprints: Use software like CAD to draw detailed layouts for pipes, ducts, and control panels.
- Select equipment: Choose energy-efficient units that match project requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Load Calculations: Compute heating and cooling needs using software like Autocad
- System Layout: Design secure, efficient ductwork and piping paths.
- Equipment Selection: Choose correct units like chillers, air handlers, and diffusers.
- Code Compliance: Ensure plans meet building, energy, and safety regulations.
- Team Coordination: Work alongside architects and electrical engineers for proper integration.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Software Proficiency: AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), HAP, and Microsoft Excel.
