LAB TECHNICIAN –

Designation: Lab Technician / Medical Laboratory Technician

Department: Laboratory / Diagnostics

Reporting To: Laboratory In-charge / Lab Manager

Location: DSK Hospital

Job Summary The Lab Technician is responsible for performing laboratory investigations, collecting and processing patient samples, providing home sample collection services, maintaining accurate records, and following laboratory quality, safety, and infection-control standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform laboratory investigations as per authorized procedures and hospital protocols.
- Collect, receive, label, process, and transport patient samples safely and accurately.
- Provide home sample collection services for patients as scheduled by the hospital.
- Visit patients' homes for blood and other appropriate sample collections in a skilled manner.
- Properly pack, transport, and preserve samples collected from home until they reach the laboratory.
- Verify patient identity and ensure correct sample labeling before collection and processing.
- Handle laboratory equipment, analyzers, reagents, and consumables properly.
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory investigations and home sample collections.
- Report abnormal or critical results to the Pathologist / authorized medical personnel as per protocol.
- Follow infection-control, biomedical waste management, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the laboratory and sample-collection equipment.
- Monitor laboratory consumables and report stock requirements to the Lab In-charge.




- Perform routine quality-control procedures and maintain required documentation.
- Report equipment malfunction, sample-related issues, or testing errors immediately.
- Coordinate with Reception, Nursing, Doctors, Home Care Services, and other departments.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct during home visits.
- Follow hospital SOPs, NABH requirements, and applicable laboratory standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings, training programs, audits, and quality-improvement activities.
- Maintain the hospital vehicle / collection kit responsibly when assigned for home sample collection.
- Perform other duties assigned by the Lab In-charge / Pathologist / Hospital Management.

Required Qualification
- DMLT / B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Relevant registration/certification as applicable.

Experience

- Freshers with relevant qualification and practical training may be considered.
- Previous experience in hospital laboratory work and home sample collection is preferred.

Mandatory Requirements

- Valid Driving Licence – Mandatory.
- Ability to drive/use the hospital vehicle for home sample collection – Mandatory.
- Willingness to travel for home sample collection within the assigned service area.
- Good knowledge of blood/sample collection and safe sample transportation.
- Good communication and patient-handling skills.
